Children are born dreamers. You can watch them act out their dreams when they play and pretend. Wouldn’t it be interesting to flashback to your childhood and recount what you dreamed of being “when you get big.” There is nothing wrong with dreaming, even after you become an adult. In Jesus’ teaching even as you mature, you still need to keep a childlike heart that is willing to learn from Him, serve one another, and be at peace with one another. WHEN YOU GET BIG, YOU ARE SMALL ENOUGH TO LEARN (v. 30-32) You will never get big until you are small enough to learn from Jesus. As long as we live, God will be teaching us. He instructs us through His Word, the Bible. He tutors you through circumstances, both good and bad. One thing is sure: you will not learn from Jesus until you get small enough to listen and learn. WHEN YOU GET BIG, YOU ARE SMALL ENOUGH TO SERVE (v. 33-37) You don’t need to waste time worrying about who is greatest. (v. 33-34) The biggest person spiritually is not the one who stands on the top of the ladder and gives orders, but the one who stands at the bottom and serves. Jesus also makes the connection between the one who receives a child in His name, and the one who receives Christ Himself and God His Father. WHEN YOU GET BIG, YOU ARE SMALL ENOUGH TO BE AT PEACE (v. 37-50) Jesus wants you to know that no matter how big you get, you will always be His child. When you get big, you will be small enough to listen to Jesus and learn from Him. When you get big, you will be small enough to serve those who are the smallest. When you get big, you will be small enough to be at peace with God and others. What do you want to be when you get big? I hope you will say to the Lord, “When I get big, I want to be small.”
Questions: 1. What does it mean to have a childlike heart? 2. Why is serving so important for the Christian? 3. What does it mean to receive a “little child”?

The lesson this week is “A Mighty Wonder.” In six days-through His spoken Word alone-the heavenly Father creates a universe so vast and complex it defies our limited human understanding. Humankind, the crown of His creation, made in His own image, comes to be through the intimate work of His hands and with His own breath. Discuss the wonders of God’s creation with your family.
