A word from Michael Conlon
Festival Director
The Liberties Festival is one of my many responsibilities within SICCDA but one that I cherish and throughly
enjoy. The Liberties is an area of Dublin with a fantastic history, architecture and unique atmosphere filled with many local characters. We want to open our doors and welcome you to this great area in which we have the privilege to live and work.
The five days of events reflect the many spectrums of our community and truly sums up the flavour of the Liberties. This year is historic for us in that we play host to our first LGBT event and by doing so are being reflective of the community in which we live. We welcome international marriage equality activist Shane Bitney Cone to a screening of his film documentary Bridegroom followed by a Q&A. For our Liberties Inked project dozens of people showed us their tattoos and told us what they mean to them. This beautiful exhibition can be seen in NCAD, Thomas Street. We have a fantastic line up of workshops that include getting the Liberties in Bloom, Yoga in St. Patricks Park, Teen Drama Camp, Blue Rinse Ball and the Annual Children’s Talent Show. Our unique event of Music, Comedy and The Spoken Word in the Guinness Storehouse is not to be missed
either and our thanks go to the team behind Nighthawks who have delivered this special night, now in its fourth year.
Look out for the Thomas Street Ambassadors who will glady help you with any questions about the area and its many attractions.
We look forward to sharing the Liberties with you and hope you enjoy all that we have to offer.
Pat Garry
SICCDA Chairperson
The 44th Liberties Festival proudly presents to you an exciting and diverse 5 day programme for 2014. We have fantastic events for everyone in the family, with artists, musicians and performers ready to entertain you in this historic part of Dublin
On behalf of the SICCDA board, I would like to thank our main sponsor Diageo Ireland. We also extend our thanks to Dublin City Council and the Health Service Staff Credit Union along with the many businesses, volunteers and community members who support the festival. The festival would not survive 44 years without this support.
We invite all members of the community and further afield to join us at an event in 2014. The Liberties holds a special place in the hearts of Dubliners and we are looking forward to celebrating this unique part of the city with you.
Remember, this is your festival. Embrace it!

The drama camp is a week long introduction to drama that’s open to everyone. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never done any drama before or if you’ve done loads. It’s okay if you’re shy and it’s fine to be loud too. The week will be mainly based on drama games, getting to know what a drama class is like and having a laugh while doing it.
