Lewis Dot Structures:• What is it? Can also be referred to as an electron dot diagram.
They can also be used to show bonding. They show valence electrons in elements,
• When do you use it? When you are showing bonds between elements or when you are showing valence electrons.
• What is each part? The letter is the chemical symbol, for example H would be hydrogen, The single lines represent single bonds. Double lines are double bonds. Triple lines are triple bond. The dots represent the valence electrons.
• How do charges affect this? By reading the atomic number you can tell how many valence electrons an element has. Bonding is the transfer of elements. Charges determine the kind of bond you will get.
Carbons diagram shown above contain its 4 valence
electrons
Electron dot diagram for water. The two H’s representing the H
and the O and its 4 valence electrons

More info:
• A polar bond is when it is not balanced and there is a high electronegativity.
• A bond, wether it be triple, double, or single, basically means that is how many bonds is going on to achieve 8 electrons.
• Polar bonds are atoms of different elements share electrons, the electrons tend to be pulled closer to one element than the other.
• Non-polar bonds are two atoms of the same element share electrons, the electrons are shared equally.
