Whatdoourstaffthink?
MyRobertFitzroyAcademyjourneystartedin2012asanewlyqualifiedteacher.Surprisingly,myfirstweekasateacherinvolvedselectingclassnames,emptyingboxesofresourcesandassemblingfurnitureaswewereabrandnewbuilding!Thoughthiswasafascinatingstarttomyteachingcareer,themomentIknewRFAwastheschoolformewaswhenthechildrenwalkedthroughthedoorsofmyclassroomontheirveryfirstdayinReception.Likelittleexplorers,theyembracedthelearningenvironmententhusiastically,fullofexcitement.Iamextremelyhappyandproudtosaythatthisexcitementforlearningcanstillbeseeninourpupilsfiveyearslater.Everyteacherfostersaloveforlearningintheirclassroomandthisisevidentinourhappychildren.InmysecondyearofteachingIwasencouragedtotakeonasubject.Ourleadershipteamhelpedmeconsolidatemyclassroompracticewhiledevelopingmyconfidenceasaspecialisedsubjectleader.Ihavebeenonanumberofexternalcoursesincludingaprojectoverseas!Now,inmysixthyearofteaching,Iamtrainingastudentteacher,leadinganareaandcontinuingmyclassroompractice.Aswellasmyschoolresponsibilities,IwasencouragedbyourheadteachertocompleteaMasterscourse.ShesupportedmydecisiontospecialiseinInclusionandIhavealmostcompletedaMastersinSENatRoehamptonUniversity.TheRFAisagreatplacetoteachaswellaslearn.Withoursupportiveseniorleadershipteam,inspirationalsubjectleaders,informativeCPDsandaspirationalpupils,wearegivenabrilliantplatformtogrowintooutstandingteachers.
IjoinedRobertFitzroyRoyAcademyatthebeginningof2017asaYear4classteacher.ComingfromAustraliaandadifferenteducationalsystem,atfirstIfoundthechangetobeoverwhelming.Butwiththesupportofmyamazingteamandtheseniorleadersoftheschool,theyhavehelpedmeachievemypersonalteachinggoals,aswellasaspireforfurthercareerdevelopment.Bothpupilsandteachershaveapositiveauraatthisschool,whichtrulymakesitanenjoyableworkplace.Theopportunitiesandextra-curricularactivitiesthestudentsareexposedtoherearephenomenalandtobeapartoftheirdevelopmentandgrowthisextremelyrewarding.Ican'twaittowatchthisschoolflourishaswecontinuetogrowanddevelopasaschool.
FromthemomentIarrivedatRFAformyinterviewIknewimmediatelythatthiswassomewhereIwantedtobeandsuddenlyfeltincrediblydeterminedtodowellintheprocesssothatIcouldmakemymarkonaplacethatappearedverydifferentbutinaverygoodway.Ijoinedin2015asaclassteacherintheEYFSandfrommyfirstdayIwaswelcomedbyanextraordinarygroupofpeoplewhoarestillinspiringandteachingmenewthings3yearson.In2016IbecameEYFSLeaderandamhavinganincredibletimecreatinganenvironmentwithmyteamthatnurturesnotonlythechildrenbutourownteachingpracticetoo.Tome,RFAisafamilyofcreative,supportive,enthusiastic,innovativeandfascinatingpeopleofwhichIamproudtobeamember.
IbeganmyteachingjourneyattheRobertFitzroyAcademyinSeptember2013.Theschoolwasonlyinitssecondyearandwasbeingorganicallygrownfromthegroundup.Startingmyteachingcareerherehasallowedmetogrowanddevelopalongsidetheschool.TheRobertFitzroyAcademyisaspecialschoolwhereallmembersofstaffarevaluedasleadersandchildrenareinstilledwiththeimportantlifeskillsofresilience,adaptabilityandenquiry(tonameafew)assoonastheybegininReception.AttheRobertFitzroyAcademyyouareprovidedwithfantasticprofessionaldevelopmentopportunities;thishasallowedmetoprogressinmycareertoYear1teamleaderinashortspaceoftime.Theschoolinvestinstaffforcareerdevelopmentandleadership.Staffareenthusiastic,motivatedandhaveapassionforteachingandlearning;withtheinterestsofthechildrenattheheartofeverythingtheydo.ThechildrenaremanyofthemostinspirationalchildrenIhaveevermet.Theyareresilient,focusedandaspirationalbutmostimportantlyfunny,it’simportantthatyoulaugheveryday.Ifeelluckytobepartofsuchahighlyskilled,passionateandmotivatedteam.
IjoinedRFA3yearsagoasaclassteacherandSMSC/P4Clead.Ifellinlovewiththeschoolonmyfirstvisit-theenvironmentissoinspiring,thestaffaresofriendlyandthechildrenenthusedandhappy.TheethosandvisionoftheschoolwassoevidentandIbelievedinstantlythatthiswasaplacethatgenuinelywantedtoprovidethebestpossibleopportunities,academicandotherwise,foreverychild.SinceworkingatRFA,Ihavebeentrustedandsupportedindevelopingmyleadershiprolewhichhasmademefarmoreconfidentandskilled.Asateacher,weareallconstantlystrivingtobetterourselvestobebetterforourchildrenandallstaffworkhardtoachievethisgoal.OursharedvaluesandcareforthechildrenmakeusastrongandunitedteamandIfeelveryluckytobepartofit.
