Bravely do everything in love. 1 Letters from the East Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with love. 1 Corinthians 16:13, 14 TEV Summer 2012 Roman & Janice Stefaniw SIL Mainland Southeast Asia Training, meetings, and windsock impressions In our Spring Letter from the East I entitled a piece “Change in the wind” and we have been asked for an update. Here is what we know. We will remain serving with Mainland Southeast Asia (MSEA) at least until March 2013 and wait to see the direction SIL leaders take to resolve the Son of God and Father renderings in some Muslim contexts. By March our current commitments will be finished and we expect by then, or sooner, to know what direction we will go regarding our organizational affiliation. We are encouraged and hopeful as we see the way things are developing, both in our lives and in the discussions about familial terms. International Conference included some excellent conversations with fine leaders who reassured us of their commitment to accurate translation. It was good to converse with friends from Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Vanuatu, and Australia, as well. In June we flew to Texas to participate in a two day training workshop in Vide Assisted Translation (VAST). This project involves a joint effort by SIL, The Seed Company (affiliated with Wycliffe), and Campus Crusade for Christ. Colleagues developed the technique of video translation in order to accelerate the process of translating the Gospel of Luke script for the Jesus Film. They can now complete the script of the Jesus film and edit it in about six weeks as compared with about two years. It was particularly interesting to learn more about the Seed Company. We have consulted for many Seed Company funded teams over the last eight years. What a treat to see so many friends and family members in Washington, Oregon, Alabama, Missouri, and even a few in Texas! Our supporters have been very affirming and strengthening for the work ahead. We had over a dozen meetings with partners and saw over a dozen relatives. Right now Roman and I are on Amtrak on our way to Portland to visit family in Oregon. Our last US weekend will be a small family reunion in San Francisco, then back home! Roman and our grandson, Justin, introduce me to their puppets. Friends and family

! While mixing work and vacation in this two month trip, we were hosted by many people. Thank you for making time for us, saving us lots of money by opening your guest rooms, and for opening your hearts to us! We got a taste of your lives when you invited us to visit your offices, stores, farms, orchards, and libraries. We salute you for involving yourselves in the mission to get the Word of God into the hands of others, including the 2000 languages that still do not even have one verse in their language. We have a fresh appreciation of how we empower Bible translation together.

✤God worked in the hearts of many at the Wycliffe and SIL International Conference last May. We had informative conversations and good fellowship. Please pray for our organizations.

✤Geoff has asked for prayer as I mentor him in the final stages of his training as a translation consultant. He is busy with his own translation work in a sensitive country, yet thinking of his colleagues needing a consultant. He has shown himself to be a careful and insightful consultant-in-training (CIT).

✤Pray for Roman as he prepares to check 1 Kings, and for me as I prep half of Luke and First Corinthians in Au Nong. We will also helping with a training workshop.

✤Pray for us as we head home to Chiang Mai on July 15 then renew our visas.✤Thank you for your partnership in Bible translation with us. We pray for you. Please feel

welcome to send us particular requests.✤Eliza is still having kidney stone problems. Please pray that together we would find a way to

resolve this situation. ✤Pray that our visa renewal will go smoothly.✤Safe travel back to Thailand and to and from our next consultant trip to Southern Thailand.

Roman and I visit at International Conference with Pacific Area colleagues from Vanuatu.

Salute to you partners

Praise & prayer
