News from Kindergarten Room 22

Happy Columbus Day and it is also the 25th (twenty-fifth) dayof school for the 2011 -2012 school year. We will be talking about andcounting the number 25. Your child may bring in a special collection of

25 items if he/she chooses to do so. Our centers this week involvecounting 25 items.

Thus far in the Harcourt Language Arts series your child willhave had 3 words a my the. Please highlight these words with a

yellow crayon or a yellow marker at home in magazines, newspapersetc. Brain researchers tell us that most children need to see theprinted word many many times before it becomes fluent (orautomatic) to read. The letter names and sounds we will have hadthus far are M m and /m/ S s and /s/ R r and /r/ T t

and /t/. The letters between the slanted lines are the sounds theletters usually make. This weeks homework will focus on the letter Rrand the number 3.

Your child is bringing home a Scholastic Book Order formtoday; these orders are due on Friday, October 21st. This way if youare choosing to order a Halloween book, it will be back before theholiday.

October is Fire Prevention Week. We will talk a great dealabout what to do in case of a fire in class over the next couple weeks.

At home, you can discuss what you would do in the same situation. Youcould design an escape map and pick a safe meeting place outside yourhome.

Room 22 has been learning some sign language. Ask your childif he or she can sing and sign the Days of the Week song for you. Ihave attached the signs to help your child teach you!

Our Halloween party will be on Monday October 31st and willbegin after the All School Halloween parade. The parade will being at9. The parade route should allow us to end in the cafeteria where we

will begin our Halloween fun. Attached is the sign up sheet aspromised. Please sign up where you will be able to help and send it

back to school with your child.An announcement was made to each classroom teacher of their

percentage of family adults who joined the PTA. Our AM group has

65% and our PM group has 52%. The winning class gets a pizza/icecream party. I dont want you to join just for our chance of winning aprize but to show you care. Will you please consider joining if youhavent already done so? I cant begin to list all of the positivethings the PTA does for your child. I will do the paper work if yousend me the $7.00 in an envelope and label it PTA.

A parent has donated a Free Kids Meal coupon from Dennys forall the children that participated in the Fun Run. The coupon isexpired but is still accepted at the restaurant! ENJOY!

Upcoming Events:

_ Friday, October 21st Scholastic Book order is due_ Monday, October 31st - all school Halloween parade. School willbe a 1/2day ending at 11:43. Both AM & PM will attend at 8:17 AM.All parents may line the halls to watch us walk the parade routebeginning at 9AM.

October is National Fire Prevention Month
