China is one of many Asian nations to celebrate the New Year with an elaborate festival. Vietnam, Korea, and Japan are some of the other nations that have similar celebrations for this occasion. This holiday always falls in mid-January or early February because the celebrating cultures use the lunar calendar,

instead of the traditional western calendar. This year, the Chinese New Year begins on Tuesday, February 5. In these cultures, the beginning of the New Year is symbolic of good fortune and is observed in order to initiate a prosperous new year.

2018 is known as the Year of the Pig. This week, children will continue working on their Chinese New Year projects listen to cultural stories and music and will create a beautiful Chinese New Year Lantern.

Año Nuevo de China

China es una de muchas naciones asiáticas que celebran el Año Nuevo con un festival. Vietnam, Corea, y Japón son algunas de las otras naciones que tienen celebraciones similares para esta ocasión.

Este día de fiesta se celebra siempre a mediados de enero o principios de febrero

porque estas culturas celebran usando un calendario diferente que se llama el calendario lunar.

El Año Nuevo Chino empieza el martes, 5 de febrero. En estas culturas, el principio del Año Nuevo es simbólico de buena fortuna.

2019 se conoce como el año del cerdo.

Esta semana nos centraremos en Asia y sus tradiciones. Los niños escucharán las historias, música y continuarán con sus proyectos de arte en la celebración del Año Nuevo Chino.

Help your child learn to read! The most commonly used words in English follow few spelling or pronunciation rules and cause children great difficulty when they are beginning to read. If you help your child master these words and know them "by sight”, then s/he will be able to focus on the more important content words. Reading will be more interesting and more enjoyable as a result! Please help your child practice his/her sight word list on a daily basis. It will make a dramatic difference as s/he begins to read.
