I. Get wisdom

• Solomon asked wisdom of God (1 Kings 3)• God gave him wisdom and much

more!

1 Kings 3:11-13

• And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;..

• Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee…

• And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.

Proverbs 3:13

• Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

Proverbs 4:7

• Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

• The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

• How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

II. Earthly possessions cannot satisfy

concubines)

• I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem. And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God…

29III. Marriage is important, but God always comes first

• God allowed Solomon to write about the joy and love of a good marriage in the Song of Solomon

• His failure came because he allowed his marriage partners to influence him in his relationship with God

1 Kings 11:1-2

• But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites;…
