Introduction: Catch that Cat is a story about a little girl named Dip Dip who will stop at nothing till she finds her friend’s cat, Kaapi. This small child uses a wheelchair because she cannot walk due to some disability but she knows how to manage life on her own.

Summary of the story: Early one morning, as Dip Dip was getting ready for school, her friend Meemo rushed into her room. She was very worried and wanted help from Dip Dip to find her cat Kaapi who was nowhere to be found.

Dip Dip immediately put on her uniform, packed her bag and told her friend not to worry. She decided to skip school but let her brother wheel her to the bus stop, like he did every day.

As soon as her brother had left, she quickly changed her direction and went up and down the streets looking for Kaapi. She looked behind the houses, inside the dustbins, under the bushes but Kaapi was nowhere.

On her way back, she also asked some people who were digging the road. Then, she asked an old man who was drinking tea in a teashop. At last, a woman who was hanging clothes to dry pointed out at a brown cat.

It was Kaapi.

Dip Dip cried out, ‘Kaapi, Kaapi’ but he disappeared down the hill. She also rolled her wheelchair and went behind the cat. Finally, not very far from her house, Kaapi paused for a second, flicked his tail and climbed up a tree. Then, he settled himself comfortably on a high branch of a tree.

Dip Dip also came to a stop under the tree and panted, ‘You crazy cat, come down!’

She was very tired and hungry so she took out her lunch box from her school bag. She was very delighted to see fish curry in it. She lifted up her box to show the fish to Kaapi. She used the fish to tempt Kaapi. She knew it will make her come down from the tree.

Kaapi looked down but he was frightened to climb down. Dip Dip understood Kaapi’s problem but she also knew that it was not easy for her to climb up the tree.

She did not lose hope. She wheeled herself close to a branch of the tree which was hanging low. Then, she used her arms to pull herself up to the branch which helped Kaapi slide down slowly and cuddle up to her.

That’s when Dip Dip heard voices below. ‘There she is on that tree!’

She looked down and saw many people looking up at her. Her father climbed up the tree and brought Dip Dip and Kaapi down.

Everyone scolded her but they also hugged her for being such a brave and loving child.
