Lien social et Politiques, (36), 21–32. https://doi.org/10.7202/005052ar Article abstract The history of family policies in Quebec can be divided into two periods: the era from the early 20th century to the 1960s, when support for families was largely provided by religious institutions, and the period starting with the Quiet Revolution, when the state took on a far more active, albeit clearly inadequate, role. There are in fact serious shortcomings in the legislation and measures implemented since 1960 in terms of reconciling the spheres of work and family, a situation that offers little hope for improvement given the current crisis in public finances and the questioning of the welfare state.
