Article abstract
This article compares the relations parents of elementaryschool students have with the schools, as seen in meetingsbringing together two contrasting groups, one composed ofworking-class families and the other of middle-class families. In three selected areas, i.e. the perspectives of socialization, education and social usefulness, the two groups demonstratecontrasting expectations and attitudes, showing that families'relations with the schools are dominated by internal tensionsand are not determined by cultural distance alone.
