MARIE MARCHAND-ARVIER LEARNT TO SKI IN LES CONTAMINESBorn in laxou on the 8th april 1985, marie marchand-arvier grew up at her parents home in Nancy. as a child she enjoyed family holidays in les contamines, participating in the ski school competition courses. as a young girl she represented the local French ski school in two important competitions, ltoile dor & coq dor. at the age of 14 , marie left Nancy to join the district ski team followed by the mont-Blanc ski team soon afterwards. she gained a place in the european cup team in 2003 and experienced her first World cup competition a year later.

she regularly placed herself amongst the top ten skiers and won her first downhill medals in 2007, in cortina and then lenzerheide. at the 2009 World championships in Val disre, she won the silver medal in super G. in 2010 marie, French super G champion, came second in the World cup super G in st moritz. at the Vancouver olympics marie was placed 7th in the Downhill, 10th in the super combined and 15th in super G.

70 instructors, 9 of which are also qualified mountain guides, are available to teach skiing, cross-country, snowboarding or biathlon. lessons are proposed in 5 different languages: French, english, italian, German and spanish. GROUP LESSONSenjoy good quality, technical and child friendly teaching methods. tuition is available at all levels from novice skiers to competition classes.

PRIVATE LESSONSenjoy private tuition in a choice of the following disciplines: alpine or cross-country skiing, snowboarding & tlmark. You are sure to make steady progress with personal advice from your instructor.

FULL DAy PRIVATE SKI INSTRUCTIONa full day of instruction is ideal for families and groups of friends. the instructor will adapt to your specific needs, provide instruction to your level and offer great resort guidance.

PIOU PIOU KIDS CLUbchildren age 2 to 4 years can enjoy the snow garden in loyers (altitude 1200 m). this specially adapted area is equipped with a ski tow-rope. the nearby chalet offers a relaxing and secure play area.

COMPETITION COURSES FOR CHILDREN & TEENAGERScompetition courses are available for good young skiers looking to improve. to register on this course kids must have already obtained their Flche dargent.

ESF TEAMif you visit les contamines regularly and your children enjoy a good level of skiing, then why not try our new team ski package? the package includes: 3 competition courses during school holiday periods, unlimited access to Flche tests, chamois tests or boarder-cross during the season, video coverage, two training weekends and a team ski jacket! Package: 630 E.

SNOwbOARD SESSIONSafternoon snowboard sessions are available with the esF (from sunday afternoon onwards at signal 1900).

the Galipette nursery and kids club offer a wide variety of activities for children from 1 to 7 years of age: leisure activities, rest rooms, a secure outdoor play area, snow games etc. open throughout the winter season from 19th December to 23rd april, 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. Different options are possible, with or without meals. Reservations recommended (number of places limited).

INFANTS (from 12 to 36 months)the nursery is adapted for very young children and has a sleeping area.

CHILDREN (from 3 to 7 years)indoor and outdoor activities for young children: reading, arts & crafts, snow garden, sledging and snowball fun etc. if you wish for your child to learn how to ski with a qualified instructor it is possible to reserve lessons and the nursery at the same time. our nursery staff will collect your children from the ski school once their lessons have finished (level Piou Piou to 1re toile).

SKI SCHOOL FOR ALL! (From 2 to 4 years)

the French ski school in les contamines offers the possibility for younger children to enjoy a fun introduction to skiing. organized at the Piou Piou club, skiing is introduced as a pleasurable activity from the age of 2 years. Prices from 28 per session.

bAROQUE HERITAGEBaroque art originated in Rome, where architects were commissioned to complete the work of michael angelo. in the high valleys of the savoy region it became a means of expression for peasant alpine communities.

the church of the Holy trinity is situated in the village centre. it was built in 1759 on the ruins of the ancient montjoie castle which belonged to the lords of Faucigny. the porch roof informs us that the church is dedicated to the Holy-trinity, an uncommon dedication for a church in this part of europe. the church was immortalized in 1802 by the famous english painter turner.

the church of Notre-Dame de la Gorge is a popular place of pilgrimage for the marian cult. it is situated in magnificent surroundings at the end of the valley. Rebuilt in 1699, this local parish church was ornately decorated with sculptures, altars and altarpieces to embellish the representation of religious history.

14 chapels dot the path leading to the church at Notre- Dame de la Gorge. they were built at the instigation of Father Gaillard in 1728, primarily to lend even more splendour to the marian cult already established in this location. the Holy chapel is situated 200 m past the church. every year on august 15th and september 8th the procession in commemoration of the birth of our lady draws in a great congregation.

bAROQUE HERITAGEBaroque art originated in Rome, where architects were commissioned to complete the work of michael angelo. in the high valleys of the savoy region it became a means of expression for peasant alpine communities.

the church of the Holy trinity is situated in the village centre. it was built in 1759 on the ruins of the ancient montjoie castle which belonged to the lords of Faucigny. the porch roof informs us that the church is dedicated to the Holy-trinity, an uncommon dedication for a church in this part of europe. the church was immortalized in 1802 by the famous english painter turner.

the church of Notre-Dame de la Gorge is a popular place of pilgrimage for the marian cult. it is situated in magnificent surroundings at the end of the valley. Rebuilt in 1699, this local parish church was ornately decorated with sculptures, altars and altarpieces to embellish the representation of religious history.

14 chapels dot the path leading to the church at Notre- Dame de la Gorge. they were built at the instigation of Father Gaillard in 1728, primarily to lend even more splendour to the marian cult already established in this location. the Holy chapel is situated 200 m past the church. every year on august 15th and september 8th the procession in commemoration of the birth of our lady draws in a great congregation.
