FRIDAY 15 MARCH 2019 | TERM 1 | WEEK 7

Principal’s Message Another great 2 weeks of learning and engagement has been prevalent at our great school. I would like to thank all of the students, teachers and support staff for their amazing efforts. I would also like to say a massive thank you to all of the volunteers that are able to give up some of their time to assist in the school, it is greatly appreciated. I know not everyone’s circumstances allow them to do this, but if you can assist in any way please let your child’s teacher know. Thank you also to all of the volunteers for ensuring that all relevant Working With Children Checks and paperwork have been completed with the office. I would like to say thanks to parents and carers for ensuring that they are dropping children in the morning and leaving the site promptly. This is greatly appreciated by teachers. What is of some concern is the parking and driving behavior at the rear of the school. Please don’t park in areas where there is a no stopping or parking sign. This hinders the traffic and places students at risk. Number plates of repeat offenders have been passed onto local council and police who will take necessary action. The council has been out to the school on a couple of occasions due to parent complaints that there has been continual dangerous driving/parking behavior at the rear end of the school. Council Rangers have been documenting and recording what they are observing. We ask everyone to please adhere to the signage in this area. It is everyone’s job to keep children safe. Attendance In previous years we have had a number of children arriving late to school each morning. This year, unfortunately this is still continuing. We do thank those families who are ensuring their students are at school by 9:30am. As a reminder, all late arrivals are recorded through our school attendance data which is regularly audited by the Department of Education. Whilst there are instances where late arrivals are justified, including morning medical appointments and unavoidable delays such as traffic or family emergencies, many are not justified. This includes getting up late, running late or leaving home late. It is vitally important that children are at school, ready to start the day by 9:30am. This sets students up for a successful day and ensures they are included in morning routines, such as explanations about the learning to come. One of our PBL expectations is being responsible. Responsible and successful learners are on time, organised and present. We appreciate the support of all our school community including parents and carers in helping our children become responsible and successful learners. Invoices Thank you to everyone who has been so prompt with payment of these invoices. If you have any queries or concerns please call in and see us in the office.

Annual School Report The Annual School Report is now available on the school website. Under the ‘About our school’ banner click on ‘School planning and reporting’ and scroll down to the link ‘2018 Annual Report’ (PDF). Hard copies are also available in the office. Have a lovely weekend, Deb Langfield Principal Woolworths Disney Letter Tiles Promotion The Kindergarten classes are currently collecting the Woolworths Disney Letter Tiles (you receive one tile for every $30 spent at Woolies). They are great to use in Literacy activities! If you would like to donate any or give away your doubles we would be very happy to use them. Please send them to Mrs Thomas in KT. Library News Overdue Books Last Friday overdue notes were handed out. Please check with your child if they have an overdue book and return it to the Library. Book Club Book Club closes on Monday 18 March. No late orders will be accepted after this date. Orders can be made on line using LOOP with Ashton Scholastic Bookclub. Premiers Reading Challenge K-2 students read 30 books for the challenge. 3-6 students read 20 books for the challenge. CWA competition The country of focus for this year’s competition is Papua New Guinea. Information will be handed out to students in the near future. Entries for Year 3 and 4 are slightly different than in previous years. This year it will be a hand drawn mask or head dress that is designed and coloured by the students on A4 paper. Donations Thank you to Charlie H for donating books to the Library. Sports News Congratulations to the students who will now go on to represent our school at state level for swimming. Well done to our girls relay team, Jamilah, Neeve, Ava and Sophie and also to Harry who will be competing in the boys 50m freestyle race. We hope you swim well and enjoy your time in Sydney in week 11, good luck! Lots of students have also been busy trialling for PSSA sporting teams, congratulations on your efforts.
