FRIDAY 17 AUGUST 2018 | TERM 3 | WEEK 4

Principal’s Message We are almost at the half way point of the term – it is certainly flying by. As you may have been informed or witnessed we had a small electrical fire at school on Thursday morning. Due to the quick thinking of staff, they very quickly alerted the fire brigade and ensured that all children and staff were moved to safe locations, whilst this was being dealt with. This is one of the reasons that we have emergency drills - everyone knew exactly what to do – which was wonderful. The fire was created by an electrical fault in the electrical board next to the KD classroom. This was quickly identified, dealt with and repaired. The rooms are now back to being safe to use. I would like to thank everyone for their co-operation on Thursday morning when this occurred; it is great to know that our safety procedures work well! Coastal Kids Congratulations to everyone involved with Coastal Kids this year. It was an absolutely fantastic concert. All of the school performers should be incredibly proud – I may be a little biased as I thought all of the Lennox students were all magnificent. Congratulations to Miss Somerville and Fiona Clarke for their organisation. In addition well done to all of the teachers involved in dance and choir performances. Lastly thanks to the staff that were able to give up their time to ensure that children were adequately supervised in the holding room. A great team effort! Athletics Well done to all of the students who participated at District Athletics last week. I understand that you all did your very best and once again it was noted to staff how great your sportsmanship was on the day. Great news! Athletic champions have been presented with their awards at today’s assembly. Any students that will go onto further representation will be notified by Mr O’Rafferty very soon. Late Arrivals/Early Departures/Afternoon Organisation As you would be aware a letter was sent to all families this week regarding drop off and pick up of children. In addition we reminded families that after school everyone must leave the school grounds promptly – playground equipment is not to be used before or after school. If you have any queries regarding the letter that was sent home, please call in and see us at the office.

Enrolments As you would be aware every school has a school intake zone. This means if you live within a school’s catchment zone you are automatically able to enrol. Over the last few years this often wasn’t adhered to as strictly as it is now. As the area continues to grow, it will be more difficult for us to accept out of zone enrolments – as we have to allow space for our in zone enrolments first. 2019 will be the last year that we will be able to automatically accept sibling enrolments for those children living outside the zone. From 2020 any new enrolments that live outside the zone will need to submit an out of zone enrolment application and follow that process. This may mean that we are unable to accept your enrolment, regardless if there are already siblings enrolled here. If you would like any of this clarified please come and see us at the office.

School Uniform Reminder to please ensure that your children are wearing the correct uniform to school every day. Well done to everyone who managed to rectify this over the holiday break. The School Locker in Ballina has all of our school uniform supplies. A reminder once again that socks should be white, grey or bottle green. These should not be basketball type/long socks. They should be ankle length. In addition black heeled boots and black leggings or track pants are not part of our school uniform. We appreciate parent’s co-operation in this matter. Teachers will be checking these again this term to ensure you all look fantastic. If an item of uniform is incorrect your child will be sent home with a reminder note of what you need to have fixed. School Stream App Update The new School Stream update is being released on the Apple and Google Play Store over the next couple of days. Please check that you update the app when it’s released. To get the most out of the app features we do recommend creating an account so you can easily manage the content the school sends through. To create an account, go to the side menu via the top-left corner and click on "Log-in". This is a quick and easy process that will require your first and last name, and a mobile number, email, or Facebook account authorisation. Once you have created your account, you will be able to access all of the new app features which will be highlighted in the welcome video. Have a fantastic weekend! Sport News Touch Football On Friday 3 August, the Lennox Head Public School girl’s touch football team played an intense match against the Ballina Public School team. It was a close game but only one team could come out on top and the Ballina team did just that. The game was held at Williams Reserve which is located behind the school so some of the Stage Three classes came over to support the girls. The tries were scored by Maddie A and Kahlila M. The team consists of twelve players and one reserve; Stella P, Juniper H, Ivy M, Chaise W, Ashlea S, Sophie R, Maya B, Jamilah B, Kahlila M, Ava W, Maddie A, Neeve A and Bella S. At full time the two teams had tied 5-all and had to go into golden point. Well done to Maddie A for being a great team captain and to the team for being great sports. A special thanks to Mrs Dyer and Jenna Harper for their support and for helping us get that far. By Juniper H and Ivy M PSSA Netball Knockout Round 4 Our school netball team travelled to Casino to play in round 4 of PSSA Netball Knockout. Both teams started nervously with many changeovers in possession. After the first quarter the score was 6 – 3 to Casino and we knew we had to settle into the game and make the most of our goal scoring opportunities. Casino proved to be competitive and as the game progressed they started to play some highly skilled netball with excellent passes and great goal shooting. Lennox didn’t give in and continued to defend and attack, working hard to get the ball into our circle. Unfortunately though, Casino were just too good and kept getting further away from us. The final score was 15 – 5. All of the supporters commented about the high level of skill demonstrated by both teams and how the final score didn’t reflect how close to game actually was. Congratulations to our Netball team on making it to Round 4! We are all very proud of how the team represented LHPS. Thanks again to our parents who were able to assist with travel arrangements. A special mention to Ashlea S for the bibs and Chaise W for lending her spare uniforms. It was a great team effort!
