Secretary’s Report What a CLASSIC, the 2012 event was. In it’s 15th year & name sponsored by the Old Guys Rule crew again for the 3rd year. A report & pics concludes at the final pages of this newsletter. Special thanks goes to firstly to all sponsors, big & small who came on board this year, without them, we have no event. Thanks especially to the organizing committee & the club, bringing it together over the 2 days, with great pristine days & very surf able waves, lasting nearly allday. The elements came together making it one of the best Classics so far. From Proceeds of the Classic, we have donated monies to the NSW Cancer Council. Funds Donated to them over the 15 years of the event, closing in on around $10000 total. Monies also to the Biala Support Services @ Ballina, to the Disabled Surfers Association, Lennox Head Surf Club & The Westpac Helicopter Service. A special thanks goes to the Surf club for their vigilantes’ over the 2 days maintaining our water safety. To all the locals surfing in this years event, it maintained good numbers & with our visiting surfers, proved another successful Classic in entries. Our next club major club get together is the Evans Head Malibu Classic comp on the long weekend in September/ October 29th to 1st The club has a tradition of camping as a crew at Evans & this year I’m sure we will carry on the tradition. Entry forms are out there. Congratulations’ are in order for the Coopersmith’s with the arrival of a little Lady, named Poppy, Cheers & best wishes from all in the club. Condolences to Forfar & Sally Petrie, Forfar losing his dad in late August, Best wishes from the club. President’s Report The 15th annual Classic was an amazing success. Excellent weather, some very competitive waves and great company in the 90 odd entrants made for one of the best yet. Many thanks to Boothy, who co-ordinated everyone and a huge effort from club members doing a great job, scoring, collating and keeping everyone happy. A big thank you, to Daffy Chisholm as head judge, not an easy task when you have up to 3 competitors surfing waves at the same time. I wish to thank all sponsors who without their support the classic just doesn't happen. I believe most competitors received a give away in one form or another Saturday night to from sponsors. If you went home early Saturday night you missed a great party at the Lennox Pub. There was some amazing surfing by many competitors and congratulation to all who made a final. Lets hope next year is bigger and better, keep on surfing cheers Gary A

Report & Results of July 2012 Club round. To all, The club surfed on the 1st Sunday July 1st, due to

Skullcandy Grom event the following weekend @ Lennox.

We were greeted with a perfect winters day, with plenty

of sunshine, off shore winds & good metre plus swell hitting

the sandbanks at Lennox Main that have been shaped by

three big eastcoast lows over the past month.

20 members took the plunge in this round surfing into a

low out going tide, difficult to paddle out, but great

shaped waves. The general vibe was a great morning

session of waves.

Standout surfer was Aaron Coopersmith, winning the firsts

with classic modern maneuvers on some great Lennox

main peelers.

Report & Results of The Old Guys Rule 15th Lennox Longboard Classic 2012 Held over the weekend of the 4th & 5th August 2012, at Lennox Main Beach. 2 breaks were utilizied over the 2 days as the beach break south of the Lennox hotel was better on Saturday & on Sunday lefts working well on the morning high tide north of the hotel. 100 Competitors covering 9 age divisions from Junior/Cadetst to Over 6O's, Old Mal & a ladies open division. The comp in it's 15th year. We were greeted with 2 classic winters days, morning high tides & clean very contestable waves. To put it into perceptive, near perfect.. The stage was set for some classic longboard riding, with Over 30's division the exception of the whole weekend, serving up some classic moves on their second heat, with noseriding maneuvers , floaters, dropknee turns & re directional turns in all the moves of three classy longboarders in Nigel Canterbury, Glenn Cunningham & local Aaron Coopersmith. The waves were there & in all divisions, longboard surfing was top notch. Saturday night festivities were held at the Lennox Hotel, a supporter of the classic since it's inception. A competitors draw was held with the highlight, the giveaway of 2 longboards from a major sponsor Global Surf Industries. A McTavish evolution to a very stoked young local grommet Nathan Mackenzie of Lennox Head, & the 2nd board, A Stewart Redline, going to Peter Cox from South Oz. Music was the finishing touches to the night with 2 bands Aquaducts & The Wilson Creek Band. Sunday another pristine day & the semi final & finals were rewarded with great waves. The Preso was at the Lennox Hotel & it was finalised with the drawing of the Contest raffle draw. 1st Prize a Stewart Longboard & Cover from Global Surf Industries & Liquid Glass Oz, went to a local Lennox lady, Gail Parker & 2nd prize, a 2 night accommodation package at The Headland Beach Resort Lennox Head went to Bruce Wilson of Ballina. Proceeds of the raffle go to the Cancer Council of NSW, The Disabled Surfers Association & Biala Special School @ Ballina as per previous years of the classics. The Support of Our Major Sponsor was paramount. With Naming rights to the Old Guys Rule organization their 3rd year . Global Surf Industries & the Local Media The Northern Star. All the divisional Sponsors are thanked for coming on board for 2012 & all the support for this event is highly regarded, as without it, this event couldn't be staged.
