Reasons for Choosing Lemania College Lausanne8

1 Roots, Location and Mission Located in the heart of the Canton de Vaud, Lemania College Lausanne (LCL) belongs to the Lemania Swiss Group of Schools (LSGS). Founded in 1908, LSGS has built a great reputation in the education sector. Our philosophy is nothing but great quality in education, respect and fairness.

Our mission is to provide an international higher-secondary education experience reaping all the benefits of cross-cultural communication in a learning community governed by fairness, politeness and respect. We believe that curiosity about cultural differences leads to recognition of the value of those differences and understanding nurtured through empathy.

5 No Man BehindOur Teaching and Learning framework at LCL is one of our major keys of success. The framework is essential to the work of increasing student achievement in two fundamen-tal ways. First, it provides a common language for effective instruction, which enables us to align all of our profession-al development. Second, it provides clear expectations for teachers, thereby creating the foundation for a comprehen-sive assessment system like the learning ladder. Our objec-tives are to challenge our students, push them to become passionate, motivated, as well as responsible for their own learning. To this end, LCL administration and teachers are all committed to improving their planning, teaching, and in-creasing the effectiveness of every student.

2 IB World SchoolLCL is proud to be an authorized IB World School. “ The In-ternational Baccalaureate® (IB) is a non-profit educational foundation, motivated by its mission, focused on the student.

Our four programmes for students aged 3 to 19 help develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world.

Founded in 1968, we currently work with 3,805 schools in 147 countries to develop and offer four challenging programmes to over 1,190,000 students aged 3 to 19 years. “ www.ibo.org

To become an authorized IB World School, LCL had to un-dergo two years of self-evaluation, reflections and modifica-tions at all levels.

3 Our Academic Programmes LCL offers two programmes for students aged 15 and above. Both of our programmes are complementary and taught in English.

Preparatory Class (PC) caters for students who are looking to learn or improve their English language skills, Mathemat-ics reasoning, Sciences lab experiments, Human Sciences, while maintaining the balance between academic and social aspects. The PC is a one-year programme that leads to the IBDP.

International Baccalaureate - Diploma Programme (IBDP) “ is an academically challenging and balanced pro-gramme of education with final examinations that prepares students for success at university and life beyond. It has been designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being of students. The programme has gained recognition and respect from the world’s leading universi-ties. ” www.ibo.org

6 TechnologyTechnology is ubiquitous, touching almost every part of our lives, our communities, our homes. At LCL, we highly value the use of technology in our classrooms as a tool to improve our teaching and students’ learning. Integrating technology into classroom in-struction means more than teaching basic computer skills and software programs in a separate computer class. Our use of technology supports four key components of learning : active engagement, participation in groups, frequent interaction and feedback, and connection to real-world experts. At LCL, effective technology integration is achieved daily. It is meaningful as it sup-ports curricular goals.

8 TransparencyNothing better than students’ voice to describe our school :

“ Lemania College is a wonderful school where students and teachers become part of your family. Indeed, this school offers us a genuine sense of unity that helps us to achieve our goals and to challenge ourselves. In addition, the fact that students come from different countries is an amazing thing in terms of culture, language and tradition. ”Jawad (Swiss)

“ I have had very good friends and teachers during my IB curriculum at Lemania College Lausanne. The knowl-edge and skills that I have acquired there have helped me to plan for my future. The friendly teachers and their indi-vidual approach to each student motivates us to be hard workers and to show perseverance in each subject. ”Mariam (Armenia)

7 Boarding HouseLemania College Lausanne considers that an excellent boarding school must foster a family atmosphere in which every student can feel happy and confident.

Living in the boarding school with others of different nationalities must be an enriching experience that develops open mindedness and connections to people from other cultures.

4 A Gateway to the WorldThe International Baccalaureate Diploma is a worldwide rec-ognized diploma. Students receiving their diploma can apply to any university of their choice. In 2013, almost 100,000 IB students went on to postsecondary studies, and this num-ber rises annually. In the last 10 years, IB students have sent transcripts to well over 5,000 higher education institutions in more than 100 countries, and a growing body of research provides evidence that IB students are more likely than their peers to go on to higher education and perform better once there. More information about the above data can be found at www.ibo.org/research

Our residential way of life strives to educate students to be re-sponsible, productive and ethical citizens. Students live in the boarding house, with others of the same gender and age and are fully supervised by staff who make all students feel at home.

The boarding school welcomes students every day, including weekends. The Lemania’s bedrooms are spacious and ex-tremely comfortable with a view over Lake Geneva or the Alps. Students share a room with another student from a different country, and there are also single rooms available.

The family size of the school means that even students who arrive during the school year can fit in easily and quickly make new friends. At the end of the school day, work and extra- curricular activities take place. Students are invited to partici-pate in evening or weekend activities and excursions.
