Our day begins at the Yankee Candle Company flagship store in South Deerfield, MA, which offers so much more than just candles. There's a recreated Bavarian village to explore, see Santa in his workshop, or savor the sweets from the fudge shop. Then we travel over hill and dale on back roads into Vermont to be treated to a sleigh ride. A team of horses usher our sleighs down snow-covered country lanes, through maple groves and alongside a mountainside. We'll make a stop in the forest at a log cabin to warm up with hot chocolate near the woodstove, while tunes belt from the antique player piano. Afterwards, a full course dinner is served at the Old Red Mill Inn in Wilmington, VT. A 19th century factory converted to an inn, much of the machinery remains in place which adds a unique charm to our visit. It's so cozy to gather around the roaring circular fireplace while sipping spirits and grog from the pub. Meal Choices: For adults - Yankee Pot Roast, Baked Salmon or Chicken Fontana. For children – Chicken Fingers In the event conditions prohibit us from traveling on February 3 we have an alternate date of March 3. DEPARTS: 8:00am RETURNS: 9:30 pm FEE: $129 per adult $88 per child thru age 12

TOWN OF LEDYARD CONNECTICUT

OFFICE OF THE MAYOR

Fred B. Allyn III 741 Colonel Ledyard Highway

Mayor Ledyard, CT 06339-1551 (860) 464-3222

FAX (860)-464-8455 Mary-Beth Hubbard

Executive Assistant to the Mayor    Happy Holidays Ledyard!   With winter upon us, it’s a great time to get involved with indoor Parks and Rec programs. Registering online is easy too! Thinking of the holidays, please be sure to drive through Ledyard Center‐ literally, the geographic center of our town and look at how far that area has come. Some of these subtle changes really add to the sense of community, including stone walls (Ledyard seems to be known for walls and rocks), the period style lamp posts, banners, sidewalks and on‐street parking. We continue to seek additional grant funding, with the goal of duplicating the look in Gales Ferry. Adding to the attractiveness in Town can only help our local businesses and possibly secure more.  Speaking of businesses, we have a number of projects in process. We recently sold the Gales Ferry Landing to a private investor. The revenue from this sale provides the Town with funding to address needed capital investments, it places the facility back on the tax rolls, and it relieves the Town of annual budgeted expenses. The new owner intends to continue the use as is. Thames Aquatic, an indoor swim center and tennis courts is moving forward with land clearing and development. Also proposed is a new gas station / convenience store with possible drive through coffee shop, located near the intersection of Colonel Ledyard and Route 117. Another developer is proposing a multi‐family development on Colby Drive with the developer completing the extension of Colby Drive out to Colonel Ledyard Highway. We have also submitted a grant application for the installation of sidewalks from Ledyard High School to Ray Holdridge Circle near Ledyard Center.   As we are in the winter months and snow will be flying soon, please be mindful of winter parking restrictions. If you own a generator, be sure it is serviced and ready for use. Please do not shovel or plow snow into the roads as this can create a hazard. If you are in an area where a fire hydrant is nearby, consider shoveling the hydrant out to keep it clear for fire use.  Enjoy one of the great seasons we experience here as New Englanders, be safe and “friend” Mayor Fred on Facebook to stay up to date on Town happenings, storm preparations, updates and other news from the Mayor’s office. Thank you for your confidence in me as your Mayor!   Best regards,

 Fred B. Allyn III
