LECTURE 14 Israa wa Al Mi’raj (The Night Journey)

Page 2: Lecture 14

We talked about the Prophet's [saw] journey to At-Ta'if and the

hardships he encountered there.

Page 3: Lecture 14

But after this journey he made another that would be the greatest journey in the history

of humanity; Al-Israa and Al-Mi’raj. It came as a gift to the Prophet (saw) after his

(saw) persistence and endurance when badly hurt, injured and rejected.

The Al-Israa and Al-Mi’raj journey is a miracle that took place after 10 whole years of persistent da'wa (missionary activity)

Page 4: Lecture 14

When did it take place? There are differences among scholars of

the exact date of the journey --however, the majority of jurists is in favor of a date between 16-12 months prior to migration to Madinah.

Page 5: Lecture 14

Why this journey? To honor him and show him his rank in heaven—

and show him (saw) the vastness of the universe that Allah (SWT) had dominion over.

If Quraysh and Al-Taif has rejected you on earth, come up and see how you are held in high esteem by the people of the heavens.

Page 6: Lecture 14

Where was he that night? Three different stories : 1) He was either in his house, 2) in the house of Om-Hani' (Ali Ibn-Abu-

Taleb's sister visiting them), 3) or sleeping beside Al-Ka'ba.

Page 7: Lecture 14

Was it a journey in soul or body? Both the body and soul unlike what some

people claim that it involved only the latter.

What is the proof?1. It caused quite a stir in Quraysh, some

even left Islam because of the impossibility of it happening in real life.

Page 8: Lecture 14

More proof . . . 2. Abu-Bakr got his title "As-Siddiq" (the most

sincere) based on this incident. 3. No one caused a stir about the Prophet (saw)

being visited by Jibril (as) regularly from the heavens to give him revelation. As long as it was all in his head—according to Quraysh—it was explainable but when it happened physically that is where they say they draw the line.

Page 9: Lecture 14

Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 58, Number 228: Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: ”The sights which Allah's Apostle was shown on the Night Journey when he was taken to Bait-ul-Maqdis (ie.Jerusalem) were actual sights, (not dreams). And the Cursed Tree (mentioned) in the Quran is the tree of Zaqqum (itself).”

Page 10: Lecture 14

On that night . . . Jibril [as]came to Muhammad (saws) on that night and told

him to circumambulate Al-Ka'ba seven times. Malik bin Anas (raa) related that the Prophet (s) said, “I was

lying in the hijr (of the Inviolable Mosque of Makka) when someone [the archangel Jibril (as)] came to me and cut open my chest from throat to belly. He removed my heart and cleaned it with the water of the well of Zamzam before putting it back in its place. Then he brought me a white creature called al-Buraq by whose means I was lifted.”

Page 11: Lecture 14

Another narration Another narration relates that the two archangels “Jibril and

Mika'il (as) came to the Prophet (s) when he was laying down in al-Hijr[of the Inviolable Mosque in Makka] and carried him to the well of Zamzam. They laid him down on his back and Jibril (as) opened his chest from top to bottom, despite which there was no bleeding. He said to Mika'il (as), ‘Get me water from Zamzam,' which he did. Jibril (as) took the Prophet's heart and washed it thrice before putting it back. He filled it with faith and wisdom. Then he closed his chest and they took him out from the door of the masjid to where the buraq was waiting.”

Page 12: Lecture 14

Dream vacation. . . The ticket was from Makkah to the Aqsa

mosque via Bethlehem [Jesus' birthplace] and the Mountain of Tur [where Musa (as) got the message] and then from Aqsa Masjed they would be ascending to the seventh heaven to meet Allah (SWT).

Page 13: Lecture 14

What would be the vehicle? It was a Buraq. What is a Buraq? Prophet (saw) described it to us. 1. Al-Buraq (Arabic: al-Buraq "lightning") is a steed,

described as a creature from the heavens which transported the prophets. The Buraq carried the prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Jerusalem and back during the Isra and Mi'raj or "Night Journey", which is the title of one of the chapter (sura), Al-Isra, of the Qur'an.

Page 14: Lecture 14

Al-Buraq in Arabic is derived from the word "Barq" meaning lightning. It corresponds to the fast pace with which al-Buraq travels from one place to another.

Page 15: Lecture 14

More on the Buraq . . .  2. “I was brought by the Buraq, which is an animal white and long,

larger than a donkey but smaller than a mule, who would place its hoof at a distance equal to the range of vision.” [Bukhari]

3. “Then he [Gabriel] brought the Buraq, handsome-faced and bridled, a tall, white beast, bigger than the donkey but smaller than the mule. He could place his hooves at the farthest boundary of his gaze. He had long ears. Whenever he faced a mountain his hind legs would extend, and whenever he went downhill his front legs would extend. He had two wings on his thighs which lent strength to his legs.” [Bukhari]

Page 16: Lecture 14

“He bucked when Muhammad came to mount him. The angel Jibril (Gabriel) put his hand on his mane and said: "Are you not ashamed, O Buraq? By Allah, no-one has ridden you in all creation more dear to Allah than he is." Hearing this he was so ashamed that he sweated until he became soaked, and he stood still so that the Prophet mounted him.”

Page 17: Lecture 14

I wonder how the Prophet (saw) felt. . . Was he prepared meet Him (SWT)? Was

he worried? Was he happy? We are going to meet Allah (SWT) no

doubt ! Are we prepared? Worried? Happy? We have to have some feeling about it, because it will determine how we will live the rest of our lives on earth before we NO DOUBT meet him.

Page 18: Lecture 14

Allah (SWT) tells us of the journey . . .In the Qur’an: "All Extolment be (to Him),

Who made His bondman to set forth by night from the Inviolable Mosque to the Further (Literally: Remotest) Mosque, around which We have blessed, that We might show him (some) of Our signs. Surely He, Ever He, is The Ever-Hearing, The Ever-Beholding" (17:1)

Page 19: Lecture 14

How great the companions were . . . Today we have witnessed how with science man is

able to go out into space—to places that are very different from our planet earth.

We see how Allah (SWT) has given humans the capability to study the laws of the universe so that they are able to create suits and spaceships that will be able to break through the earth’s atmosphere and visit other planets [companions did not see this!]

Page 20: Lecture 14

Funny how! Many believe [even worship] scientists

and in science—new religions such as Scientology—more than they believe the Creator of laws of science and the brains of the scientists that discover them. Science only explains what is there, but they can never tell you HOW? Where did it come from?

Page 21: Lecture 14

Notice also in the Ayah—”Abdihi” choice of the word “servant" in the ayah (verse)--

whenever Allah (SWT) honors a human being, he either reminds him that he is a human being, or bestows upon him the blessing of remembering that he is His slave.

No matter how successful, famous, wealthy, or religious you get, always maintain your humility before Allah (SWT) and He shall elevate you and raise your status.

Page 22: Lecture 14

Who was his companion on the journey?Prophet Muhammad (saw) says, “I got on the back

of Al-Buraq and he got on it with me. Neither did I let go of him nor did he let go of me.”

[we see Jibril accompany the prophet on this journey, we see him come every year in Ramadan and study the Qur’an with the Prophet (saw)]

Page 23: Lecture 14

Reached the Aqsa mosque . . . They landed next to the wall of the mosque and

Muhammad (saws) did a strange thing. He tethered the creature to a ring. Why do you think he instinctively did so though the creature had came just for this purpose and was not expected to run away? This is to teach us an extremely important lesson. Entrusting one's soul to Allah (SWT) does not mean that you dispense with the causes or the means. We must do our best to achieve our goals.

Page 24: Lecture 14

He (saw) entered the mosque . . . Expecting it to be deserted, but the

mosque was amazingly full of the prophets of Allah (SWT) from the time of Adam (AS) until Isa (AS) "Jesus". They all came to welcome Muhammad (saw).

Page 25: Lecture 14

Significance of this gathering . . . 1) The unity of humanity regardless of the

difference in time. Islam calls for unity, for the coexistence of civilizations and not for the clash of civilizations. Allah is the Creator of the Universe and HIS message if ONE !

Page 26: Lecture 14

Another significance 2) Why did they come down, when

Muhammad (saw) would see some of them later on his journey to the heavens? All the prophets lined up to pray. They were waiting for what Jibril had to say.

Page 27: Lecture 14

What did Jibril (as) say?Jibril told Muhammad (saw), “Step forward and

lead the prayer and they all prayed two Raka'a(s) lead by our Prophet (saw).”

This was an honor, no doubt, but also a commandment. The prophets came to handover to him the torch of humankind. Accordingly, prophet Muhammad (saws) was now responsible for Jerusalem and for the earth.

Page 28: Lecture 14

No man is led in prayer in his homeUnless by permission. So, who is now the

owner of the Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem? And who is giving it to them?

Choice is by merit, and not by birth!

Page 29: Lecture 14

Anas ibn Malik continues . . . “Prophet Muhammad (saws) said, ‘I

prayed two Raka'a(s) in it, and then came out and Jibril brought me a vessel of wine and a vessel of milk. I chose the milk, and Jibril said: You have chosen the natural thing."‘

Page 30: Lecture 14

Significance of milk and wine! The milk here represents Allah (SWT)'s creation that is intact. The wine, on the other hand, stands for the interference of

man in the creation of Allah (SWT) that sometimes leads to its ruin; in this case, wine is originally made from grapes.

Accordingly, the natural instinct and not the fake one is the foundation for Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) and for his nation, and we must search for this pure instinct within ourselves.

Page 31: Lecture 14

From the Aqsa Masjed began the Prophet’s (saw) ascension to the seven

heavens started, and where the descent ended before returning to Makkah.

Page 32: Lecture 14

Muhammad (SAWS) started his ascension journey of Al-Mi’raj from Al-Mi’raj rock. They reached the seven heavens within seconds taking into consideration that nowadays, a spaceship traveling 7000 km/h takes three whole years to cover a distance from earth to the nearest planet in the sky.

Page 33: Lecture 14

Ascended from this rock . . .

Page 37: Lecture 14

In an authentic Al-Bukhari Hadith, the Prophet (SAWS) says, “Then he took my hand and ascended with me to the nearest heaven, when I reached the nearest heaven, Gabriel said to the gatekeeper of the heaven, 'Open (the gate).' The gatekeeper asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel answered: 'Gabriel.' He asked, 'Is there anyone with you?' Gabriel replied, 'Yes, Muhammad I is with me.' He asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel said, 'Yes.' So the gate was opened and we went over the nearest heaven. . .

Page 38: Lecture 14

What did he see there? . . . and there we saw a man sitting with some people on his

right and some on his left. When he looked towards his right, he laughed and when he looked toward his left he wept. Then he said, 'Welcome! O pious Prophet and pious son.' I asked Gabriel, 'Who is he?' He replied, 'He is Adam and the people on his right and left are the souls of his offspring. Those on his right are the people of Jannah (Paradise) and those on his left are the people of Hell and when he looks towards his right he laughs and when he looks towards his left he weeps”.

Page 39: Lecture 14

Why is he laughing and crying? He is happy with those who learned from his

experience, and at the same time, sad that there are those

who have not learned. Adam’s (as) experience with Iblis (Satan) is our

experience—the very same one but it comes in different forms but the idea is the same. The enemy is still the same.

Page 40: Lecture 14

He meets his father Adam (as) Adam (AS) is the father of the whole of

humanity, which confirms the unity of humanity. . . . . The gate was opened, and when I went

over the first heaven, I saw Adam there. Gabriel said (to me). 'This is your father, Adam; pay him your greetings.' So I greeted him and he returned the greeting to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious son and pious Prophet.'

Page 41: Lecture 14

Then second heaven . . . Then Gabriel ascended with me till we reached the second heaven.

Gabriel asked for the gate to be opened. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel answered, 'Gabriel.' It was asked, 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel answered in the affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcomed. What an excellent visit his is!' The gate was opened. When I went over the second heaven, there I saw Yahya (i.e. John) and 'Isa (i.e. Jesus) who were cousins of each other. Gabriel said (to me), 'These are John and Jesus; pay them your greetings.' So I greeted them and both of them returned my greetings to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious brother and pious Prophet.'

Page 42: Lecture 14

The third heaven . . . Then Gabriel ascended with me to the third heaven and asked for

its gate to be opened. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel replied, 'Gabriel.' It was asked, 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcomed, what an excellent visit his is!' The gate was opened, and when I went over the third heaven there I saw Joseph. Gabriel said (to me), 'This is Joseph; pay him your greetings.' So I greeted him and he returned the greeting to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious brother and pious Prophet.‘ [he was given half of beauty]

Page 43: Lecture 14

The Fourth Heaven . . . Then Gabriel ascended with me to the fourth heaven and asked

for its gate to be opened. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel replied, 'Gabriel.' It was asked, 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcomed, what an excellent visit his is!' The gate was opened, and when I went over the fourth heaven, there I saw Idris. Gabriel said (to me), 'This is Idris; pay him your greetings.' So I greeted him and he returned the greeting to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious brother and pious Prophet.'

Page 44: Lecture 14

The fifth heaven . . . Then Gabriel ascended with me to the fifth heaven and asked

for its gate to be opened. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel replied, 'Gabriel.' It was asked. 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcomed, what an excellent visit his is!' So when I went over the fifth heaven, there I saw Harun (i.e. Aaron), Gabriel said, (to me). This is Aaron; pay him your greetings.' I greeted him and he returned the greeting to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious brother and pious Prophet.'

Page 45: Lecture 14

The sixth heaven . . . .Then Gabriel ascended with me to the sixth heaven and asked for

its gate to be opened. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel replied, 'Gabriel.' It was asked, 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. It was said, 'He is welcomed. What an excellent visit his is!‘When I went (over the sixth heaven), there I saw Moses. Gabriel said (to me),' This is Moses; pay him your greeting. So I greeted him and he returned the greetings to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious brother and pious Prophet.' When I left him (i.e. Moses) he wept.

Page 46: Lecture 14

Why was he weeping? What makes you weep?' Moses said, 'I

weep because after me there has been sent (as Prophet) a young man whose followers will enter Paradise in greater numbers than my followers.'

Page 47: Lecture 14

The seventh heaven . . . Then Gabriel ascended with me to the

seventh heaven and asked for its gate to be opened. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel replied, 'Gabriel.' It was asked,' Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcomed. What an excellent visit his is!'

Page 48: Lecture 14

So when I went (over the seventh heaven), there I saw Abraham. Gabriel said (to me), 'This is your father; pay your greetings to him.' So I greeted him and he returned the greetings to me and said, 'You are welcomed, O pious son and pious Prophet.‘

Page 49: Lecture 14

Prophet Ibrahim (as) . . . Was found reclining against Al-Baitul-

Ma'mur—the Ka’abah of those in the heavens, and it is right on top of the Ka’abah on earth. and there enter into it seventy thousand angels every day, never to visit (this place) again”.

Why is Ibrahim (as) reclining there?

Page 50: Lecture 14

He sends us a message!Ibrahim (AS) gave him a message for us, "Oh, Muhammad

convey to your nation (followers) on my behalf, peace. Further inform your nation that the Jannah is of pleasant scented earth (said to be scented of musk and saffron); its waters are fresh and pleasant. It (Jannah) is of plane earth, free of trees. Its trees are Subhan Allah (Glorify Ye Allah), alhamdu lillah (Praise Ye Allah), la ilaha illa Allah (Allah is but the One and Single God), and Allahu akbar (Allah is the Great and the Exalted)"

Did you get the message?

Page 51: Lecture 14

The heavens are groaning . . . . The prophet said, “Seventy thousand

angels enter into it [al-Bayt al- Ma’mur] daily and, after they come out, they never return again”. Can you imagine the number of angels? You cannot even compare the number of human beings to the number of angels.

Page 52: Lecture 14

In an authentic Hadith reported by Al-Albany, “the heavens groan, and it has the right to, as there is no space of four fingers but an angel prostrating in adoration and worship to Allah (SWT)” Therefore, Allah (SWT) does not need our worship. We are the ones who need to worship Him in order to save ourselves from Hellfire.

Page 53: Lecture 14

Among other scenes he saw . . . men and women in front of whom there was an

edible and attractive dish of meat, but they abandoned it and ate rotten meat. The Prophet (SAWS) asked Jibril (AS) who they were and he replied, “These are the adulterers; they leave the halal (permissible) good meat and eat foul haram (sinful) meat instead.”

Page 54: Lecture 14

He also saw people in whose mouth balls of fire were crammed.

He asked Jibril (as) who they were and he answered, “These are the ones who embezzle the property of orphans unlawfully”. This is clear in the ayah where Allah (SWT) says, “Surely the ones who eat the riches of the orphans unjustly, they surely only eat (up) Fire in their bellies and will roast in a Blaze”? (4:10).

Page 55: Lecture 14

He also saw . . .

The Prophet (SAWS) also saw people with brass nails with which they scratched their faces and chests. He asked Jibril (AS) who they were and he answered, “These are the ones who gossip about people in their absence and whose speech stigmatizes a woman’s honor.”

Page 56: Lecture 14

They further ascended . . . The Prophet (saws) and Jibril (AS) kept ascending,

until they reached a point where Jibril stopped. That was the farthest place Jibril was allowed to reach; it was the Lote-Tree (The Tree of the End—SIDRAT AL MUNTAHA). No creature, be it an angel, a jinn, or a human, can walk beyond this tree, but the Prophet Muhammad (SAWS). By this, he was given a great rank and we all should love him and revere him for that.

Page 57: Lecture 14

Why can’t Jibril (as) continue . . .Jibril said, “If you walk further, you will penetrate,

but if I walk further, I will burn.” The Prophet (saws) said that Jibril at that moment looked more like a old carpet from fear of Allah.

(second place he (saw) saw him in his original form)

Page 58: Lecture 14

2nd time he saw him in his original formAllah (SWT) says, “For indeed he saw him at a

second descent, Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!). (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go transgress! [the greatness of the Prophet (saw)] For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest!” (53:13-18).

Page 59: Lecture 14

Prophet was asked to describe the tree. . He was speechless, “Then I was made to

ascend to Sidrat-ul-Muntaha (i.e. the Lote Tree of the utmost boundary) Behold! Its fruits were like the jars of Hajr (i.e. a place near Medina) and its leaves were as big as the ears of elephants.”

Page 60: Lecture 14

What does Allah (SWT) say to the Prophet (saw)?Allah (SWT) said to him, “Muhammad! I have enjoined on your

Ummah fifty prayers daily.”Prayer is the only obligation that was decreed in the

Heavens. You should feel that the moment you say “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is Great), you start a meeting with Allah (SWT), that Allah gives you attention, that Allah looks at you, and that if you look or drift away, He says, “[Are you looking] At who is better than me?” Have you turned away because you found someone who is better than me?”Daily Spiritual Journey to Allah!

Page 61: Lecture 14

Hadith about prayer . . . The Prophet (saws) said, “Then the prayers were enjoined on me:

They were fifty prayers a day. When I returned, I passed by Musa (AS) who asked (me), “What have you been ordered to do?” I replied, “I have been ordered to offer fifty prayers a day” Musa (AS) said, “Your followers cannot bear fifty prayers a day, and by Allah, I have tested people before you, and I have tried my level best with Bani-Israel (in vain). Go back to your Lord and ask for reduction to lessen your followers' burden” So I went back, and Allah reduced ten prayers for me. Then again I came to Musa, but he repeated the same as he had said before. Then again I went back to Allah and He reduced ten more prayers.

Page 62: Lecture 14

When I came back to Musa he said the same, I went back to Allah and He ordered me to observe ten prayers a day. When I came back to Musa, he repeated the same advice, so I went back to Allah and was ordered to observe five prayers a day. When I came back to Musa, he said, “What have you been ordered?” I replied, “I have been ordered to observe five prayers a day” He said, “Your followers cannot bear five prayers a day. No doubt, I have got an experience of the people before you. I have tried my level best with Bani-Israel. So go back to your Lord, and ask for reduction to lessen your follower's burden” I said, “I have requested so much of my Lord that I feel ashamed, but I am satisfied now and surrender to Allah's Order” When I left, I heard a voice saying, 'I have passed My Order and have lessened the burden of My Worshipers”

Page 63: Lecture 14

The Prophet (saw) also saw Jannah…And entered Jannah. Once, the Prophet (saws) teased his

companions by asking if any of them had ever been to Jannah. No one answered, except Abdullah Ibn-Omar, who raised his hand saying that he has. The Prophet (SAWS) asked if any of them had ever drunk of the rivers of Jannah, so Abdullah said that he did. Omar Ibn-Al-Khattab (his father) put his hands over his head. The Prophet (SAWS) asked if any of them had ever eaten of the fruit of Jannah, so Abdullah Ibn-Omar said that he had.

Page 64: Lecture 14

Prophet (saw) asks Abdullah to explainPeople got confused. So the Prophet ordered

Abdullah to tell them how he had done those things. So he said that he entered Jannah the day prophet Muhammad (SAWS) entered it, and that he drank of its rivers when the prophet (SAWS) did, and that he ate of its fruit the day the prophet (SAWS) did.

Page 65: Lecture 14

What is in Jannah? The Prophet (SAWS) says, “ In Jannah is what no eyes have seen,

and what no ears have heard, and what never crossed the minds of humankind.”

He widens the scope: 1) what no eyes ever saw. You certainly have seen many things

in your life. 2) But you have heard of more than you have actually seen. 3) And in your imagination, you have imagined more than you

have seen or heard. Yet, everything in Jannah is beyond your wildest imagination!

Page 66: Lecture 14

Saw the river of Kawthar . . . that Allah (SWT) promised him. He asked Jibril

what it was and he said that it was the river kawthar, whose banks are made of gold, as Allah promised, “Surely We have given you the Abundance; So pray to your Lord and slaughter (the sacrifice). Surely your antagonist is he who is without offspring” (108:1-3).

Page 67: Lecture 14

Houses in Jannah . . . are made of blocks of gold and silver, the

cement that sticks them together is made of pure musk, the pebbles are pearls, and its ceiling is Allah’s throne. Imagine that wherever you look up from your house, you will see Allah’s throne.

Page 68: Lecture 14

He saw the hellfire . . . “He had the opportunity to see Malik, the guardian of Hell, with a

cheerless frowning face. Therein, he saw the Hell dwellers, of whom were those who unjustly eat up the property of the orphans. They have flews similar to those of camels, swallowing red-hot stones and then issuing out of their backs. There were also the people who take usury with bellies too big to be able to move around; they are trodden by the people of Pharaoh when these are admitted into Hell. In the same abode, he saw the adulterers offered tasty fatty meat and rotten smelly one but they make option for the latter. The licentious women were also there hanging from their breasts.”

Page 69: Lecture 14

The next morning, prophet Muhammad (SAWS) woke up depressed and confused; he did not know whether to tell Quraysh about his journey or not, as the Surah explaining it was not revealed yet. Abu-Jahl walked near him and asked him what was wrong. Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) started telling him what happened. Abu-Jahl then decided to seize the opportunity to ridicule the Prophet (SAWS) and his message and asked Prophet Muhammad whether he would repeat the same story if he crowds the dwellers of al Ka’ba to which the Prophet (SAWS) agreed. For the very first time, Abu-Jahl started to gather people to listen the Prophet (SAWS) who narrated what happened with confidence. However, the people kept clapping their hands as a sign of disbelief mockery. When Abu-Bakr heard about this, he said his popular quotation “If he had said that, then it is true. I believe what is far more than that”

Page 70: Lecture 14

On his way back home . . . After he the Prophet (SAWS) saw Jannah,

he descends to the Buraq wall and then he was brought home but before he went home . . .

Page 71: Lecture 14

He (saw) . . . Saw the camels of Makkan merchants who

were lost. So he guided them to them, and he drank some of their water and covered the container . . .

Page 72: Lecture 14

Told Um Ayman about his journey . . She told him not to tell anyone lest they

do not believe him, but he insisted that he (saw) had to give the message—for it was not with purpose!

Page 73: Lecture 14

Abu Jahl saw Muhammad in deep thoughtAnd asked him what was wrong. Prophet Muhammad

(SAWS) started telling him what happened. Abu-Jahl then decided to seize the opportunity to ridicule the Prophet (SAWS) and his message and asked Prophet Muhammad whether he would repeat the same story to the crowds he was to collect from Quraysh. For the very first time, Abu-Jahl started to gather people to listen the Prophet (SAWS) who narrated what happened with confidence.

Page 74: Lecture 14

They made fun of him . . . However, the people kept clapping their

hands as a sign of disbelief mockery. TO THEM THIS WAS THE PROOF THAT THEY WERE LOOKING FOR DISCREDIT HIM—the journey to Jerusalem from Makkah took 1 month.

Page 75: Lecture 14

Quraysh challenges him . . . They asked him to describe the Aqsa

mosque to them. At that moment, the Prophet (SAWS) somehow could not recall exactly what it looked like. Therefore, Allah (SWT) showed it to His prophet in a revelation and he started describing it to them as he saw it.

Page 76: Lecture 14

Abu-Bakr gets his title . . . .When Abu-Bakr heard about this, he said

his popular quotation “If he had said that, then it is true. I believe what is far more than that” And the Prophet (saw) looked at him and said, “You O Abu Bakr are the Siddiq [the one who continuously believes].”

Page 77: Lecture 14

Asked for another sign . . . So he (saw) said that he saw a convoy on the

way from the Aqsa mosque to Makkah, and that it was going to be late because some of camel went astray. Soon after that, what the Prophet (SAWS) foresaw actually took place, but the people of Quraysh falsified his testimony and claimed that it was only magic.
