Learning Prezi at Penn State Behrend
Suggestions for Planning Your Prezi
• Carry the viewer through the journey with you, get out of the slide mode thinking• Look at your content/concepts and plan out your related ideas, make less important ideas smaller• Sketch on paper, mind map, index cards • Look for templates that go with your structure
Prezi is cloud-based software (Must have Flash on computer)Go to www.Prezi.com & Create an Account (Sign up Now) or Log-in: Education Account
Click on New prezi Choose template
A template will help you get started. You can always change the theme later.
Menu items at top
- Frames & Arrows- Insert- Themes
Frames & Arrows
Use frames to bring attention to a certain area of the Prezi or to organize certain content in one place.
You can change the frame after you place it where you want it.
Arrows are used to draw atten-tion or connect thoughts/ideas.
Insert
- Images- Symbols & Shapes- Diagrams- YouTube Video- PDF or video on hard drive (15 mb max)- Background music that loops or VO to each path step- My Collection (save favorite elements here)- PowerPoint Presentation (good way to get assets in Prezi but be careful of design elements)
Themes/Templates
In Explore, look for Prezis tagged Reusable. You can copy them and reuse the content.
Theme Wizard: Choose colors of theme and font style
You can also save the theme.

Help & Settings icon
- Manual- Video Tutorials- Support - Resolution (If you know you’ll be presenting on a wide screen, you can choose 16:9. Default is 3:4.)
Path - shows screenshots of each step
To edit the path, click on the pen-cil icon. You can change the path by moving the screenshots up or down .
Home, Zoom and Lock (scroll over to right side of screen to make it appear.)
- Home button will zoom out so you can see entire presentation.- Lock button will lock area in which you’re working.- Zoom in or out with plus or minus icons.
Zoom in and out
You can use plus/minus icons on right side of the screen to zoom in or out. Or you can use your mouse scroll wheel.
Pan
To move around the canvas, click in an area where there is no frame and drag your mouse around.
Transformation Tool
Click on a frame and you will see you can make it bigger/smaller, edit the frame and delete it if desired.
Text
To create text, click anywhere on the canvas (off of a frame) and the Text Toolbar will appear. Begin typing and edit as desired.
Frames
Use frames to bring attention to a certain area of the Prezi or to orga-nize certain content in one place.
Click on the hand icon to move the item around.
You can change the frame by click-ing on the middle icon at the top.
Edit Fonts & Themes
Click on Themes > Customize Current Theme to change the colors of fonts and frames. You can also change the Font style for each Heading, Sub-heading, etc.
You can also upload a 3D back-ground image from here.
Share - Collaborate
You can collaborate with up to 9 other people on your Prezi.
Click on Share > Share prezi
Add People by typing in their email address and choose Editor
They will receive an email inviting them to join.
Share - Present online
You can invite up to 30 people to view your presentation at a specific time. There is no audio conferenc-ing added but you can use another audio conferencing program.
Click on Share > Online presen-tation
Share - Portable Prezi
If you plan on presenting where the Internet may not be available, consider downloading a Portable Prezi which can be shown offline. (It can’t be edited though.)
Share > Download as portable prezi
Images (maximum size is 2880 x 2880)
- If image is for background, right click on and select ‘Send to back’- Accepted file types: .jpeg, .png, .gif, .pdf
URLs
To place a link in your presenta-tion, you have to write out the entire url. Once presenting, it will become clickable.
Shapes
Add clipart and shapes in different styles to add visualization to your concepts.
Diagrams
Use diagrams to assist in explain-ing your concepts. The frames can later be changed if desired.
Transitions
To keep your viewers engaged but not sea sick, place your elements close so the transitions are short.
If you need assistance with creating your Edu account or have issues, contact their Support by creating a comment on their forum about your issue. You will have to create a free account first, then ask them to assist you with upgrading to the education account. They have company reps reading the forums and will reply back to you.
