In the Black School of Business at Penn State Behrend, students learn in small classes and are actively engaged in solving the problems faced by modern business. Our outstanding faculty members have a blend of academic research and professional backgrounds, consult with leading corporations, and travel the world to share their expertise; they use these academic and professional experiences to design learning exercises that challenge students to think across disciplinary and cultural boundaries. This learning-by-doing model of acquiring knowledge creates graduates who are prepared to apply concepts in a real-world setting, making our alumni attractive to employers. Graduates also understand the importance of driving innovation through collaboration, a key to organizational survival and growth in the twenty-first century. The school offers students a high-tech academic environment in the Jack Burke Research and Economic Development Center and unique learning oppor-tunities made possible by strong industry partnerships and a $20 million endowment from the late insurance executive Samuel P. Black Jr. and his wife, Irene.

AccreditationThe Black School of Business is the only school in the region accredited by AACSB International, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. This is the highest standard of achievement and a designation earned by less than 5 percent of business schools worldwide. The school is also listed in U.S. News & World Report’s America’s Best Business Schools and The Princeton Review’s Best Business Schools.

Undergraduate ResearchPenn State Behrend annually awards nearly $350,000 in undergraduate research grants to fund hands-on learning opportunities for its students. Every Behrend student is eligible for a grant (typically $1,200 a semester) after completing an application process that includes selecting a faculty mentor, developing a research project, and writing a formal proposal. Each spring the college hosts a regional undergraduate research conference where university students publicly present their research and creative work.
