STUDENT NEWS

Occupational Therapy graduate students have been performing service learning activities during the spring. One group has worked with SolarBron and the Southwest Indiana Regional Council on Aging, addressing the prob-lems of leisure and wellness for older adults. Another group has worked with employees of the Vanderburgh County Correctional facility by providing ergo-nomic training. Thirty-two fourth year students are completing their second, 3 month clinical assignments. Two OT graduate students are completing internships abroad this semester, one in Japan and the other in Ghana

Circle of Life Welcome to the world, William Benjamin. Will is the son of Joy McBride, radiologic and imag-ing sciences faculty. He was born on March 27 and weighed 7 lb.14 oz. He is a beautiful baby!

Faculty News Lesa Cagle, food and nutrition, is co-chairperson of the upcoming Healthier Evansville Week that be-gins on Sunday April 29 and contin-ues through May 6. Evansville’s sec-ond annual Healthier Evansville Week will kick off at the end of April to raise community awareness regard-ing health issues—focusing on physical fitness, nutri-tion, prevention, and making healthy choices. FOX News recently interviewed Ms. Cagle here at USI for the upcoming event. For more information, visit Healthier Evansville’s website: www.healthierevansville.org.

The USIANS (USI’s Association of Nursing Students) recently held elections. The results of the elec-tions are Co-Presidents – Lisa Rickey and Lacresha Williams; Co-Vice Presidents – Sara Schulte and

Valerie Wills; Co-Treasurers – Lindsay Curl and Kate Womack; Co-Secretaries – Theresa Buse and McKenzie Kramer; Co-Projects Chairpersons – Jordan York and Andrea DeCamps; Co-Newsletter Correspondents – Holly Williams and Bobbie Jo Schultz; and Nominating Committee Chairperson – Amy Burkett. Congratulations to all! The group is advised by nursing faculty Linda Evinger, Marilyn Ostendorf, and Wanda Douglas.

April is the fourth

month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar. The deri-vation of the name (Latin

Aprilis) is uncertain. The traditional etymology from the Latin aperire, "to open," in allusion to its being the season when trees and flowers begin to "open," is supported by comparison with the modern Greek use of ??????? (opening) for spring.
