The Book of Exodus(The “Outgoing”)
- God calls a nation to become His Kingdom and moves in with them.
- How can God’s presence dwell among a nation of wicked revolutionaries? But not quite right.
- Better, how can sinful rebels bear the presence of the holy Creator? They can not. That is the problem.

• God’s glory descended on the mountain and gave Ten Commandments.
• God’s words terrified Israelites. Begged Moses to be the mediator. He becomes a prophet for next 40 years, pleading with God to have mercy on his people.
• Why was Israel redeemed? 19:5-6 – Holy – gift of the law– To be priests – to all nations, to be light
• When they fail, God becomes a laughing stock
1 Peter 2:9-12
• 9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.11 Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul.12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Thou shalt not worship any graven image.
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy.
Honor thy father and thy mother.
Thou shalt not murder.
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Thou shalt not steal.
Thou shalt not bear false witness.
Thou shalt not covet.
The Tabernacle“The Dwelling Place”
– Along with Ten Commandments, Moses receives instructions on the dwelling for God’s glory among the people.
» Instructions are 7 chapters, building is 6 chapters. » Not just a meeting place to meet God, but God’s
dwelling place, heaven on earth» Recreation, getting back what was lost» How do you explain God's holiness?
» In the middle is the great rebellion. » rebellion is contrasted to God's holiness
The Tabernacle
• Instructions 25-31• Golden Calf 32• Building 35-40
The Tabernacle
– The biggest problem is not Pharaoh’s stubbornness but of the chosen people. If Pharaoh got judged, how can Israel avoid it?
– God wants to wipe them out. Moses speaks 32:12-14» Strength of his promise is tested. » God’s character is revealed. He forgives. » Why was Pharaoh judged and not Israelites? That’s
hidden. 34:6
