Dear LAPMS Families, This month is a time for celebrating love and friendship. Children will be celebrating
Valentines Day in the classrooms by learning about ways of showing love and appreciation to
parents and family, as well as their friends and teachers. Children will be making and exchanging
Valentines Day cards in the classrooms.
We are also celebrating our students unique skills and talents on our Talent Show,
which will be held on Thursday, February 26th at 10:00 a.m. in the courtyard. Parents are invited!
Our talent show is a great opportunity for our children to showcase their talents. Children ages 4
through 6 years old are participating this year. On Friday, February 27th, the children will do a
second performance for LAPMS students only.
We continue to build strong connections and lines of communication with all LAPMS
families. Each child will have a new Childs Success Summary Report (CSSR) this month, and will
be distributed on Tuesday, February 17th. The CSSR is a comprehensive report on each childs
social, developmental, and academic growth. Please sign and return the CSSR II by Monday,
February 23rd.
We truly appreciate all the parents who continue to show their support of our events
and programs, especially to parent volunteers who volunteer their time for the children. We
continue to strive for the health and safety of our children and excellence in our curriculum.

What is the Childs Success Summary Report (CSSR)? It is a brief, individualized summary of your childs behavior and academic performance in the classroom. Please review it at home, sign it, and return it to your childs teacher by Monday, February 23
rd.
The first CSSR was distributed in November. The second CSSR is a great way to check your childs areas of growth and improvement since CSSR I. The upcoming Science Fair in March will be LAPMS first science fair in the history of LAPMS! Children ages 4 and above are participants this year.
Our Talent Show is coming!!! It will be held on Thursday, February 26
th at
10:00 a.m. in the courtyard. Parents are invited! The Talent Show program will be distributed to parents participants to inform parents of the order of performances. Performances will be limited to 2-3 minutes in length only in order to accommodate all participants. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Front row seating is reserved for parents whose children are performing. Please be considerate of all parents, and take a front row seat only if your child will be one of the next ten performers.
We are holding our annual Readathon in your childs classroom on Tuesday, March 3
rd. On this day, children may bring their
favorite books to school. Parents may volunteer to read a book for your childs classroom. If interested, please inform your childs teacher.
Our Annual Talent Show is scheduled for Thursday, February 26
th!
Talent Show participants have been practicing in their classrooms for the past month! On Monday, February 23
rd and
Tuesday, February 24th
at 10:00 A.M. Performers must bring their CDs, props, or musical instruments to be used for the performance. Please label CDs with the childs name, song title, and track number.

Distribution of CHILDS SUCCESS SUMMARY REPORT (CSSR) II:

Illness
Dear Room 2 Parents, The month of January was productive and exciting for Room 2 students! We did an experiment on how roots absorb water. Teachers carved a small cavity in an uncooked potato and a cooked potato and placed it in water. Students observed whether or not the salt placed in each cavity is absorbed. They are amazed that the salt began to appear wet in the uncooked potato! They concluded, based on their observations, that the salt in the cooked potato cannot be absorbed because its cells are no longer alive. Thank you to our Room 2 parent, Ms. Fettes, for an in-depth presentation on the South American countries of Ecuador and Bolivia! The posters on the two countries hang proudly in our walls, and the two stuffed toy llamas have found a cozy little spot in our classroom! Students wanted to name our llamas and read more about them.

Parents are advised to call the school when their
child is absent or ill. If a child has been absent
due to illness and has been seen by a doctor, a
doctors note is needed upon the childs return. A
sick clearance slip or excise slip will be filled out at
the front desk upon receipt of the doctors note.
The sick clearance slip must be turned in to the
classroom teacher.
Medication
Medication should be in its original container with
the childs full name, and it must not be expired.
An authorization form and medication log must
be filled out completely for every new medication
and signed by a parent.
Winter Safety
Please dress your child warmly this winter season. Ensure that the child has a jacket or coat to wear for outdoor play. Children need to stretch and energize their bodies, so playtime outside is encouraged if it isnt rainy or wet. If it is too cold, windy, or rainy, teachers engage the children with activities in the classroom such as games, story time, and crafts.

The child who said she saw the rainbow then said,
Well, a rainbow has different colors and layers. So
maybe the fish scale also has layers?
Needless to say, the child later drew the fish scale
with amazing accuracy, after having only a few
minutes of observation using the microscope.
Parents can take advantage of teachable moments
such as these by asking the right questions. Here are
a few more tips:
Show enthusiasm and wonder. Whether
it is a discussion on why it rains or why
the sky is blue, children can often sense
your enthusiasm and will mirror it by
asking questions.
Encourage observation. As you walk
through the park, or even on your way to
school, ask what kinds of sounds are
present, or point out the different bird
songs.
If a child shows interest in something,
build upon it by offering to help in a
special project, like building a birdhouse
or researching books at the library on a
topic of choice.
Parents are the childrens first teachers, and, more
than anything academic that they learn at school,
they begin to thirst for knowledge and crave
answers about the world around them. Through our
attitude and enthusiasm, parents and teachers pave
the path towards a lifetime of learning.

Water-themed Experiments
Digging Up Dinosaurs: Place small toy animals such as dinosaurs inside a small container of water before freezing it. When it is frozen, have your child dig the dinosaurs out by rubbing the surface of the ice with a toothbrush, and record how long it takes to dig up the dinosaur. Not only will your child be learning about the properties of ice, this activity also strengthens their small hand and wrist muscles. You could also try freezing other toy animals such as polar bears, and talk about hibernation!

My daughter is currently enrolled in Rm. 9, and she LOVES
it! The staff is very nice, accommodating, and helpful. It is
truly an "open door" policy at the school, which my husband
and I really, really appreciate. It's nice to be able to talk to
staff and teachers, at really anytime
They have been phenomenal with my daughters potty
training as well! Her vocabulary/sentence structure is
exploding and expanding by the minute. Honestly, we have
no complaints about this campus. Thank you L&P!!!!

Learn and Play Montessori School has been a positive influence
on my sons social, academic, and personal developmental
growth. Starting out with Ms. Rukshana, he grew eager to
come to school each day and become an advocate for himself,
speak up for his needs and concerns (something he was shy
about when he started). He recently moved up to the 4-5 year
old room and he is enjoying receiving daily jobs, making new
friends, and learning mathematical concepts. Learn and Play
Montessori is a great school where children explore and grow
developmentally.

Only an authorized parent/guardian may drop-off and
pick-up the child. If someone other than the parent is
picking up the child, please sign a parent authorization
form, and turn it in to the front desk.
When checking in and out from ProCare at the front desk,
the computer plays a short sound when the procedure is
finished. Please wait for this sound to ensure that you
have successfully completed the signing-in or signing-out
process.
Late Pick-Ups: Please call us if you are going to be late in
picking up your child. Please note that a fee of $2.00 per
minute will be applied.
The school opens from 7:00 A.M.-6:00 P.M. The school director
gives tours at 9:00-11:00 A.M. during the Montessori activity
period. This is the best time to observe the children at work with
different subject areas. Orientations are scheduled at 1:30-3:30
P.M. daily. You may bring your child to the tour, and the child
may observe the classroom during the Montessori activity
period. Please call the front desk to schedule a tour.
An important part of our admissions process is the orientation
where the parents and the child are invited to meet with the
director.
