Plenary Speakers
Noreen Caplen-Spence is a teacher trainer, dyslexia specialist and teacher. She was the
head of The International Study Centre at Kent College, Canterbury for ten years. She has
taught students from primary to post-graduate level in the past twenty-five years. As a
teacher trainer for Pilgrims and the British Council, she has trained teachers in many
countries. Her current research interest is in language learning within a cultural context.
Carol Read has over thirty years’ experience in ELT as a teacher, teacher trainer, academic
manager, materials writer and educational consultant. Her main specialisation is in pre-
primary and primary language teaching and she has published extensively in this area. She
has worked as an educational consultant in many different countries in Europe, Latin
America and Asia. Carol was President and Vice President of IATEFL from 2012-2016.
Adrian Underhill is a trainer and consultant, writer and speaker. He is a past President of
IATEFL and current IATEFL ambassador, and series editor of books for teachers. He works
with teachers and managers on developing ‘schools that learn’ and ‘intelligent school
organisations’, and with teachers and trainers on ways of incorporating natural human
faculties like intuition, playfulness and improvisation into classroom learning.
