We had another exciting year with the LEADERship Program.

Class 27 “27 Leads The Way”, or is it “Rogue 27” has really come together,

and I expect we will see great things from them. They will graduate on May

4th and we have already started the search for applicants for class 28. I am

truly excited to have three classes under my belt, and am looking forward to

the next few months, searching for applicants who are ready to take on a new

challenge and outlook of Martin County. If you have someone in your busi-

ness or organization, or know someone in your industry, please let me know

and I will get an application to them.

I would like to thank Sue Hedgepeth, Planning Chair and the Planning Committee for the

awesome job they do all year long planning, scheduling and following through on the various days.

These Alumni have taken the leadership role seriously and have gone the extra mile. They are

fulfilling the on-going mission of LEADERship Alumni. I invite all Alumni to join us, or the Youth

LEADERship Planning Committee at any time during the year.

Please join us on May 4th for Capstone Day at Treasure Coast Hospice on Indian Street and

Class 27th Graduation at the Yacht & Country Club. Call me for more information at 772.287.1088,

ext. 106 or email me any time at [email protected].

Taryn Kryzda (13) Martin County Administrator, has been busy with staff

changes this past year.

• Kevin Kryzda (15) Taryn Kryzda’s husband, has retired from the county as Chief

Information Officer after working for the county for 33 years. He has gone to work

in the private sector with General Micro Systems Incorporated as their CIO.

• George Stokus (25) who has been Airport Manager, will be Assistant County

Administrator, a title change which was DOA (Director of Administration) that will

provide expanded responsibilities. George, who has a Masters in Public Admin-

istration, will continue to be a Liaison to the business community, engage as need-

ed in economic development activities and retain oversight of Airport operations

and capital projects. He will begin his transition immediately with a target comple-

tion date of May 1, 2017.

• Gabriella Ferraro (24) whose last day with the county was April 14 as the public

affairs and communications director for five and a half years. Ferraro has accepted

a job in the private sector with Quest Corporation of America, Inc. where she still

will work in public affairs and communications. Both Gerraro and Stokus serve on

the LEADERship Alumni Board of Directors.

The Martin Youth LEADERship Career Day Program Chair,

Linda Fitzpatrick from Keiser University, kicked-off the day at the

impressive Pine School’s Hobe Sound campus with an orienta-

tion overview. JoAnn Faiella, C.O.O. of Treasure Coast Urgent

Care, followed up with a workshop on attending job fairs and

interview tips.

Orientation was followed by the first break-out session led by

Leslie Haviland, Associate Director of Student Activities at Keiser

University. Ms. Haviland reviewed proper resume formatting and

tips, and students took a group quiz to learn the dos and don’ts

of resume writing. The advice was particularly useful, as

students had an opportunity to attend a job fair immediately

afterwards. Students were given the opportunity to search for

summer jobs, summer internships and volunteer opportunities

with approximately a dozen businesses. Many thanks go to

Cheree Ramirez from Manpower for coordinating the Career Fair.

Students rotated the rest of the morning between presentations from local experts in their fields. Emily Maas and Trish Brown from Indian

River State College gave a presentation on budgeting, particularly during the college years. Kat Deusterhaus, from the Social Butterfly

Agency, discussed social media and how students can brand themselves based on the way they post and use social media, such as Linked

In, Facebook, etc. A delicious lunch was provided courtesy of The Pine School. We are grateful to Beth Lettengarver, Director of Admis-

sions, for her help with logistics for the day. The afternoon session started with a fashion show of “What to Wear vs. What Not to Wear” to a

job interview and was presented by Amy Moyer. Six MYL students enthusiastically modeled clothing provided by SteinMart. The fashion

show, complete with runway carpet, music and commentator, included a take home brochure on the dos and don’ts, including pictures and

suggested looks for a young job seeker’s first interviews.

Robert Ankrom, Chair of the Family Day at the Mets Baseball Game, sends his THANK YOU’s to his Class 26 team Elisabeth, Linda, Emily & Jenn, who are the best and jumped right in there with him. Our sponsors: Colonial Life, First Citizens Bank, Florida Power & Light, Hustons Commercial Interiors and Martin Health System who ensured that this event would be a financial success. The volunteers who helped register all our 202 family members. The board members who gave me guidance in planning, coordinating and promoting the whole affair. I am so proud to be a LEADERship Alumni. Your personal commitments to the success of this program is very evident and helps to inspire folks like my Class who are just becoming more engaged in community events.

This was without a doubt - a total team effort.
