Le Rouge 2013 VINTAGE CONDITIONS IN 2013 This 2013 vintage brought great growing conditions for our vineyards. In general, winter in 2012 was dry and cold in Colchagua, except in june which showed higher temperatures and was also humid (+2ºC versus the last 10 years average). The springtime rains where average. All rains where concentrated in october. Summer was colder and more humid than the historic data. During december, rains of 68.1 mm at Colchagua made it the wettest december known in Lapostolle’s history. These rains supplied our water reservoirs and allowed the grapevines to develop without the necessity of extra summer irrigation. Only february brought back normal recorded temperatures. The ripening process occurred slowly but, very balanced. The fall and march brought normal conditions. Regarding the temperatures, april was going well only the maxima were lower. The grape lost early their vegetal flavors and was technically ready to be harvested, but we had to wait for the aromatic and phenolic ripeness. The ripening was going slowly, because of the normal fall characteristics: lower temperatures, shorter days, more clouds. So it was very important to be on top of the game, waiting for the maturity and then harvesting quickly considering the risk of rain. WINEMAKING Our winemaking philosophy remains very natural with minimal intervention through the process of Lapostolle 2013. Our key points are 100% hand harvesting, strict fruit selection by 100% use of optical state of the art grape selection, Vistalys. All fermentations were made with wild yeast. Lapostolle is a red blend that enhances the main characteristics of each grape into a symphony of the components; from Carmenère, its roundness and spicy expression; from Merlot, its red fruit and acidity; from Cabernet Sauvignon, its complexity and elegant structure; and from Syrah, its exuberant and attractive aromas. The blend this vintage is 30% of Syrah; 25% of Carmenère, 23% of Merlot and 22% of Cabernet Sauvignon. 100% of the blend was aged for 12 months in a mix of new (1%), second (14%) and third use French oak barrels (85%). There is no clarification and a very light filtration, in our quest of creating authentic wines and not disturbs the natural balance. TASTING NOTES Color: Brilliant red purple color. Nose: Red fruit aromas such as cranberries and sweet spices notes and black pepper. Aromas of chocolate and tobacco. Palate: Elegant and balanced tannins very well integrated with bitter chocolate and coffee notes in aftertaste. Very persistent finish. Service and Food Pairing: Prior to serve decant at least 30 minutes. Serve at 16°C (65°F). Ideal companion for slow cooking dishes and seasoned red angus. Our Lapostolle wine esents the heart Lapostolle: the Fnch winemaking and ending exפrtise and the chilean Terroir at its best.
