    BASIC COURSE:

    INTRODUCTION TO

    LAITY MINISTRIES

    Instructor: Brandon Bass

    PURPOSE:The Lay Speaking Ministries Basic

    Course focuses on the many ways laity

    are called to be in ministry through such

    things as preaching, leading, teaching,

    serving, proclaiming the gospel, disciple-making, storytelling, and growingthrough personal spiritual formation.

    The text introduces the stated purposes

    of Lay Speaking Ministries as caring,

    leading, and communicating.

    Completion of the Basic Course is

    required for Lay Speaker certification.********************************

    All UMC members will be identified asLocal Church Lay Speakers upon

    completion of the basic course.

    Completion of basic course plus an

    advanced course is required to be a

    Certified Lay Speaker.**Certified Lay Speakers MUSTattend

    an advanced course once every 3 years

    to remain certified.**

    ADVANCED COURSE:

    "Lead in Evangelism"

    Instructor: Richard GarlenThe purposes of this course are:

    (1)To gain a deeper understanding ofbiblical hospitality as a foundationfor the faithful congregations.

    (2)To look more closely at the cultureand climate of our congregations and

    to explore ways in which they may

    grow in their ministry of welcoming

    and making disciples.

    (3)To explore ways in which familiescan be more intentional in faith

    formation and to enhance the ways in

    which the church becomes a modelof faith for the family.

    (4)To identify faith stories and tobecome more comfortable telling

    about the faith in our everyday lives.

    (5)To begin to form teams that includethe pastor and lay people that will

    develop strategies to help

    congregations proclaim the faith.
