The Laurel Ruff office is open to the public 7:15 AM to 3:30 PM

ATTENDANCE NEWS – Students with perfect monthly attendance will be acknowledged each month. Perfect attendance is defined as missing less than 5 class periods across an entire month. Attendance data includes attendance verified by teachers each period of the school day, and student timecard data. Students self-monitor attendance using a timecard system (time clocks are located in the front office and in every homeroom class). Our technology students input attendance data on a spreadsheet so we can determine who has perfect & near perfect attendance. On the last day of school at least $100 in actual cash awards will be awarded to students with the highest number of hours documented across the school year using timecards.

TIGER’S BANK - All students earn $10 an hour in Tiger bucks for each period of attendance. Students with perfect monthly attendance will receive bonus Tiger bucks (amount to be determined.)

For 2016/17 we will incorporate monthly budgeting into our Tiger Banking program. Students will be charged $1000 for basic expenses based on the expected costs for living in a one bedroom apartment with a roommate. Students can conduct research to determine a lower monthly figure. Tiger Bucks remaining after required monthly expenses can be spent at the school store / clothes closet, and for tickets for extra-curricular events (e.g. positive behavior events, Camp Ruff, etc.). Coming to school and remaining all day is an important transition skill! Our attendance incentive program is designed to increase school wide attendance and establish positive attendance habits to support future independence.

SHARE YOUR VOICE!! San Juan’s Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) is the plan that shows what is being done and what resources are being allocated to help us reach our district goals for students. We are looking for committee members ready to provide feedback and advice to the Board of Education regarding our district’s LCAP. Your voice is important in making sure we are meeting the needs of all students and especially English learners, foster youth, homeless and low income students. The committee is comprised of parents/guardians, high school students and community members, along with staff who support the group. Members are asked to offer feedback and ideas to fellow committee members based on input and observations collected from other parents/guardians and students at their “home” school and in their neighborhoods. The committee meets monthly in the evenings from September to May with one full day meeting in March (specific dates for this year are listed on the application). On Sept. 15, we are sponsoring an LCAP orientation for those w ho are interested in serving on the committee. The orientation will provide some background information and help attendees understand what LCAP is all about and what the responsibilities are of an advisory committee member. The orientation will be from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Starr King K-8 (4848 Cottage Way Carmichael, CA 95608). Please RSVP with Tia Taylor at 979-8567 or by email at [email protected]. Applications to serve on the committee are available at your school site, on the district website at www.sanjuan.edu/lcap, or can be completed online by clicking here. You do not need to attend the orientation to apply for committee membership but we need your application by September 19, 2016.

For more information about the committee contact Tia Taylor at 979-8567 or by email at [email protected].

THEATRE WORKSHOPS FOR TEENS WHO ARE DEAF OR HAVE SPECIAL NEEDS

The Short Center Repertory will offer continuing Saturday intensives in Theatrical Clown Technique each month through June of 2017. The program is seeking students committed to the yearlong workshops one Saturday per month, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The workshop location will be 5051 47th Ave. All activities will be free to the participants. The first workshop on September 17th is open to any teens who have developmental challenges. The second workshop on September 24th will be conducted in American Sign Language and is open to high school age teens who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing and any teenage friends and siblings who are fluent in ASL. A third workshop on October 8th is open to students who are Blind/Low-Vision. The Workshops are free, and open to students from all high schools throughout the Sacramento area. They provide an opportunity to work creatively with other young persons who are DHOH, Blind/Low Vision, or have Developmental Challenges, building performance skills leading to a final presentation. The instructors are veteran actors who themselves are Blind, Deaf, ASL interpreters, or have developmental disabilities. They will facilitate each workshop, which will be led by a master teacher in "theatrical clown" technique. For more information or to sign up, please contact James Anderson, The Short Center Repertory: [email protected]. Project sponsored by Developmental Disabilities Service Organization with support from the California Arts Council, The Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission and the Alan and Mary Short Endowment.
