Through all of this I have been incredibly proud of the safety record of our company - despite our team being put in many situations that were risky and exposed to the effects of aftershocks and other continuing hazards.

Everyone has been working under extremely demanding and unfamiliar conditions. This has been incredibly challenging for all of our team and, to be honest, we learnt a lot of new skills on the job in very trying circumstances. Immediately after the February quake we provided temporary showers and toilets for the additional Orion staff that arrived in Christchurch to help restore and secure the power supply to much of our city - their work helped a hint of normality return to Christchurch residents and families as we all struggled to come to terms with our new normal.

Our team quickly repaired the damaged sewage system to the Christchurch South Police Station enabling the Police to use this base to access devastated areas of South Christchuch.

As the year progressed perhaps the work we are most proud of was as we extended our close links with the education sector rebuilding the plumbing and drainage infrastructure of Christchurch Schools with Arrow Strategy. Ongoing projects today still include Avonside Girls High School, South Brighton Primary School.

One of the most challenging projects

we faced last year was as part of the team that created a brand new site for Discovery 1. The special character, primary school was based in the central city for more than 10 years, so faced a huge change moving to a newly developed site on the St John of God property in Halswell. The new Discovery 1 site on 10,000m2 includes 10 relocatable classrooms, a toilet block, a hard court area, verandahs, a grassed play area and car parking. All About Plumbing were responsible for the site drainage, plumbing and water supply. We worked as part of a large team under huge pressure to have the school up and running on their new site for the students and teachers as quickly as possible.

Equally challenging was the Avonside Girls High School site where we crammed eight months of work into four. Our team relaid sewer and stormwater infrastucture secured a hygenic water supply, provided plumbing gas fi tting and drainage connections to all of the newly

Hmmm - an interesting surprise when we lifted this storm water inspection hatch to fi nd it full of sea water outside South Brighton Primary School.

installed relocatable buildings. Avonside Girls’ were forced out of the school for most of last year but we are proud to be part of the team that has brought them back home in 2012.
