INSTALLATION OF OUR NEW BISHOP Two services will mark the Installation of Bishop Ronald W. Gainer as the eleventh Bishop of Harrisburg. A

Solemn Vespers service and the Mass of Installation. Each will be held at a different location and provide an opportunity for prayers with the Bishop.

The Solemn Vespers service will be held Tuesday, March 18 at 7 pm at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 6150 Allentown Blvd, Harrisburg. A Mass of Installation will take place on Wednesday, March 19 at 2 pm. It will be held at St. Patrick Cathedral, 212 State Street, Harrisburg. The Mass will be invitation only.

The eve of the Installation Mass is a significant time for prayer. The Vespers Service will be open to the public and provide the opportunity for faithful to pray with Bishop Gainer who will lead the service. Vespers, also called Evening Prayer, is part of the Liturgy of the Hours. also known as the Divine Office. The service consists of the singing of hymns, psalms, bible readings and prayers. A reception will follow. It is expected that the service will be streamed live on the Diocesan website, www.hbgdiocese.org.

Bishop Ronald W. Gainer will be installed as the eleventh Bishop of Harrisburg on March 19 at St. Patrick Cathedral. Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, Archbishop of Philadelphia will preside over the Installation. Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, the Papal representative to the United States, along with numerous Catholic Bishops and clergy from around the country are also expected to take part. Significant attendance of clergy is expected from the diocese of Harrisburg, Lexington, Allentown and Philadelphia for this ticketed event. Plans for a live television, radio and web broadcast of the installation to allow the public to view and pray along with Bishop Gainer are being developed.

BISHOPS ANNUAL LENTEN APPEAL-THE LIGHT OF FAITH You have probably received a letter from the Diocese of Harrisburg and you will soon receive a letter from St. Pius

X pertaining to the Bishop's annual Lenten Appeal. Included in our parish letter will be a response envelope to be returned to the parish office either by mail or placed in the collection basket. Our parish assessment/goal this year is $ 69,200. We ask that you give prayerful consideration to what you will give. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

The Ringers II is a way to meet other parishioners, to connect while being at home and to multiply the prayers for our parish. Beginning in Lent and ending on Divine Mercy Sunday, we will gather clusters of 4 or 5 people who want to participate and then share just those cluster phone numbers with each other. The people in each cluster call one another at least one time during the 8 week period, as fits your schedule, until you have each called to say "Hello." We would encourage, additional calls if you choose. When you say "Hello" also share a prayer for Fr. Dan and the Parish. If you would like to take part or would like to suggest someone for us to invite, please give your name and number to the office 570-374-4113 or to Carol Parowski 570-539-4283 or carol[email protected]

PRAYER Catholics are encouraged to pray

, more during Lent, especially with 'Scripture. Lent is also an ideal time

to receive the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation in preparation for the celebration of Christ's Passion, Death and Resurrection.

~l.SIi~~~ll FASTING AND ABSTINENCE Catholics of age 14 and older abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent. In addition, on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, Catholics from age 18-59 fast, limiting themselves to one full meal and two smaller meals each day.

ALMSGIVING Moved by the sacrifice of Christ, many Christians combine almsgiving with fasting, giving to the poor the money they saved by eating, drinking or buying Jess as they rely more upon God's abundant grace.

r/1-e. pu...ve.r 1~ut1j P(11/e.rt1j So what is this poverty by which Christ frees us and enriches us') It is his way of loving us, his way of being our neighbour, just as the Good Samaritan was neighbour to the man left half dead by the side of the road (cf. Lk lO:25.ff). What gives us true freedom, true salvation and true happiness is the compassion, tenderness and solidarity of his love. Christ's poverty which enriches us is his taking flesh and bearing our weaknesses and sins as an expression of God's infinite mercy to us. Christ'S povel1y is the greatest treasure of all: Jesus' wealth is that of his boundless confidence in God the Father, his constant trust, his desire always and only to do the Father's will and give glory to him. Jesus is rich in the same way as a child who feels loved and who loves its parents, without doubting their love and tenderness for an instant. Jesus' wealth lies in his being the Son; his unique relationship with the Father is the sovereign prerogative of this Messiah who is poor. When Jesus asks us to take up his "yoke which is easy", he asks us to be enriched by his "poverty which is rich" and his "richness which is poor", to share his filial and fraternal Spirit, to become sons and daughters in the Son, brothers and sisters in the firstborn brother (cf. Rom 8:29). It has been said that the only real regret lies in not being a saint (L. Sloy); we could also say that there is only one real kind of poverty: not living as children of God and brothers and sisters of Christ. Pope Francis, 2014 Lenten Message

G od, heavenly Father, look upon me and hear my prayer

during this holy Season of Lent. By the good works You inspire, help me to discipline my body and to be renewed in spirit.

Without You I can do nothing. By Your Spirit help me to know what is right and to be eager in doing Your will.

Teach me to find new life through penance. Keep me from sin, and help me live by Your commandment of love. God of love, bri ng me back to You. Send Your Spirit to make me strong in faith and active in good works. Open my heart to Your [ave, and prepare me for the coming feast of the Resurrection of Jesus.

Lord, during this Lenten Season, nourish me with Your Word of life and make me one with You in [ave and prayer.

Fill my heart with Your love and keep me faithful to the Gospel of Christ. Give me the grace to rise above my human weakness. Give me new life by Your Sacraments, especially the Holy Mass and Penance.

Father, our source of life, I reach out withjoy to grasp Your hand; let me walk more readily in Your ways. Guide me in Your gentle mercy, for left to myself I cannot do Your Will.
