Who Cant Drink?
.
Binge DrinkingBinge drinking used to mean drinking heavily over several days. Now, however, the term refers to
the heavy consumption of alcohol over a short period of time (just as binge eating means a specific period of uncontrolled overeating).
Today the generally accepted definition of binge drinking in the United States is the consumption of five or more drinks in a row by men — or four or more drinks in a row by women — at least once in
the previous 2 weeks. Heavy binge drinking includes three or more such episodes in 2 weeks.
Who can be blamed?
• Bad influence.
Other side of the spectrum!• According to the 2005 SAMHSA National Survey on Drug Use and Health 10.8
million persons, ages 12-20 (28.1% of this group) reported drinking alcohol in the past month. Nearly 7.2 million (18.8%) were binge drinkers, and 2.3 million (6.0%) were heavy drinkers.
• According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, approximately 5,000 young adults under the age of 21 die as a result of underage drinking and 1,900 deaths are derived from car crashes.
