LANGUAGE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM (LTEP) A multi-lingual approach to teacher preparation and education. The Language Teacher Education Program (LTEP) is a direct entry, four- year Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree program. Teacher candidates in this program will focus on Early/Middle Years (Prekindergarten to Grade 8) learners in immersion, bilingual, intensive and core settings. Cree or French will be your Teaching Area 1 (or major) and you will be able to select one of the following as your Teaching Area 2 (or minor): ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BECOMING A CREE OR FRENCH LANGUAGE TEACHER? Physical Education Science Social Sciences/Social Studies Be immersed in Cree or French in your coursework and field experiences to improve your language proficiency and methodological prowess. Courses in this new program focus on second language pedagogy, curricula, planning and assessment. Participate in four different field experiences throughout Years 2, 3 and 4 of the program. Exchange opportunities and off-site learning experiences are being developed to complement the coursework and to give specific attention to culture, identity and language revitalization. The Language Teacher Education Program (LTEP) is a direct entry, four-year Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree program. Teacher candidates in this program will focus on Early/Middle Years (Prekindergarten to Grade 8) learners in immersion, bilingual, intensive and core settings.

In addition to the French language courses that comprise your Teaching Area 1, teaching methods courses will also be taken in French. These methods courses will focus on Early/Middle Years learners (Prekindergarten to Grade 8).

1. Graduation from high school or secondary standing

2. A competitive five-subject admission average, calculated using marks for five acceptable Grade 12 (senior-level) subjects:

One English One mathematics Three other subjects from the following:

Max. of two natural sciences Max. of two social sciences or humanities Max. of one fine or performing art, physical education or approved practical or applied arts subject from your provincial curriculum

3. Required high school classes: Biology 30 or Chemistry 30 or Physics 30 or Earth Science 30, or Computer Science 30

History 30 or Social Studies 30 or Native Studies 30 30-level language other than English or a Fine/Performing Art Foundations of Mathematics 30 or Pre-Calculus 30

Two deficiencies among above subjects are permitted but must be cleared prior to entering second year of study.

ADMISSIONS

Competitive ranking-based admission: Feb. 15Applicants who do not meet the early admission average or who apply between December 1 and the regular application deadline of February 15 will be ranked competitively by admission average and stream (e.g., Cree or French). Seats will be offered to the top applicants.

DEADLINES

Early admission: Dec. 1If you are a high school student or recent graduate, you may be eligible for early admission. Early applicants who apply, pay the application fee and submit transcripts and other admission documents by December 1 and have an admission average of 80% or greater will be offered early admission.
