Taichung is located in the middle of Taiwan and has warm climate through the year. Many migrants and vagrants are attracted by Taichung to fly over and stop for feeding and breeding.

Located in the middle of Taiwan western coat, Taichung receives different influences from both northern and southern regions. The site, Taichung Gateway Park, was former Shuinan Airport, ca. 6 KM from the Main Railway Station in the old city center. It expands from the north to the south edge of Taichung Gateway City, totally 67.34 ha.

An ever-changing park along the 100-year timelineTaichung Gateway Park = Organism

Restoration to Genuine GreenFormosa, a verdant green island centuries ago, now turns to grey and cemented.Every Taiwanese nowadays consumes concretes 35 kg/yr in average. Shuinan Airport, constructed by Japanese Army with tons of concrete, is a testimony to that cementation process. Restoring the cemented airport to a genuine green should be the ultimate mission of Taichung Gateway Park.

Activity areas of differ-e n t s i z e a r e r e p r e -sented as “circles" with irregular layout.

The overlapping areas between c irc les are drawn lines, forming boundaries between cells.

Cells of different size are des igned to be shapes of the same s t r u c t u r e t h r o u g h specific rules.

Small activity areas c a n b e f o r m e d b y dividing colossal cells into smaller ones.

Likewise, small cells c a n m e r g e i n t o a colossal cell as they change always accord-ing to the change of the times and needs.

Ecological cell definition

UnitFunctions

The cell collection forms a continuousenvi-ronment – ecological ecotone.

Dynamic observation of cell collection provides basic information for environmental education and ecology academic research.

The “cell,” a unit for nature and human to move randomly and freely, makes the park change constantly and energetic to keep evolving. The irregular fractal like, polygon-based cell maintains a specific order.

Site

The circulation system design to improve the water reuse and recycle of the park . The recycl ing water wi l l be used for beneficial purposes such as agricultural and landscape irrigation, and the remaining supply the water of the park. The permeable pavement with the stormwater storage and underdrain system will increase the resilience of Taichung.

Water is imported from the Gangwei River to create wetlands in the park with aquatic plants to stop suspended solids in water, absorb ammonia nitrogen and inorganic salts, and purify water. Surface run-off from the main buildings in the park, the park area and rainwater and reclaimed water from surrounding communities are led to the artificial river in the park to offer irrigation, landscape and disaster prevention functions. Streams, beaches, flooding, and wetlands of different depths create a multi-leveled waterfront space and form continuous plant and animal clusters.

The climate in Taichung is rainy in summer and dry in winter. The micro-terrain in Taichung can be categorized into six important types of inhabit, including wetland, forest, lawn, stream, garden and precious old trees scattered far and wide. This planting design contain the six important types of terrain as cells in the Central Park organism, hoping to reach the goal of creating continuity with the surrounding micro-terrain of the same attribute and allowing diverse ecologies to enter and create symbiosis.

Color Plan

Spring

Summer

Autumn

Winter

Lauraceae community offers a background color of green tone; each single cell is planted with one colorful species, with season changes.

Young leaves in springtime make the background color bright green. Flowering trees like Chinaberries give a purple tone.

Mature leaves in summertime create a dark green base, decorated with yellow flowers.

Dried, falling leaves turn the park into a dark red color in autumn.

The park appears in a dull tone when winter comes, since most leaves fall down, and Lauraceae trees give the major color. Riverside Wetland

Our design intervention attempted to transform an empty and confounding private space--with stairs leading to a blank wall--into a publically claimed experiment in the activation of the street. A “red carpet” highlighted the nonsensical design of the space and set the stage for a 15 minute “Occupy Space Dance Party.” We distributed lights to the dancers to digitally record the contrast between the dynamic movement of the tightly packed people with the gridded lines created by the cars that typically dominate the intersection. The temporary installation attempted to highlight the need for an enhanced public street life supportive of people rather than cars.

Site located along the 11th Ave NE. Project’s goal is to build the active of connection of a walkable, reliable and enjoyable framework vision for the entirety of the project area. Also, find out the possible solution to elevate the human priority and mitigatethe traffic issue. And trying to develop the ability and activity to make effective contributions to the urban problems.

The purpose of this assignment is to create a toy which can easily build by children in slum of Lima. The toy should not only provide a elegant shape and an attractive way to play, but also teach children some water knowledge. I used some material that can easily find in trash can to create a racing toy with water purify function. Children can fill up dirty water from the input at the begining of the racing game. After they finished, they can enjoy clean water from output.

-Portable-Stable-Less Consumable-Cheap-Easy to Build

The idea from these prototype is come from two main reasons. First, we want people can have their own fog collector which is portable, personal, and cheap. To achieve this apporach, the new collector should be less consumable, cheap, and easy to build. So we try to combine structure, gutter and basis part together to not only reduce the weight but also make it affordable. Second, in order to fir the context of cemetery site, we make fog collectors as the media for the journey between life and death. It bring life back by giving water to plant; and also guilding people to cemetery to see the past. As a result, we choice “Sail Boat” to be the original form for this prototype.
