Message from the President by Don Tomasulo

Although the weather has kept the activity on the golf course

to a minimum, the activity behind the scenes has been hap-

pening at a feverish pace. It’s been a month since Ray Tugend

has taken over as GM and what a month it has been.

Ray has taken a fresh look at our operation and has revital-

ized LCC with his boundless energy. He has brought in Brad

Bund to run the food operation with the goal to improve

quality and service while lowering the cost of goods. Joselyn

Kowalczyk has joined us as Director of Sales to help with

membership sales and outside events. We have sold all 10

PETA memberships to help with our emergency cash flow.

Embarked on a campaign for new members and reached out

to former members who left in good standing and let them

know they are welcome to come back.

These are just a few of the accomplishments of month one.

Give Ray and the entire LCC team your support while they

work on ways to improve your Lancaster Country Club experi-

ence. If you have not done so already, you are invited to meet

the new team Thursday, April 19 and share your thoughts

with them.

Rock and roll night was smash hit last year. We are doing it

again Friday, April 20 and I personally invite you to rock with

me and my All Star Project as I get back behind the drums. If

you like great classic rock, good food and want to experience

Lancaster in a fun, relaxed atmosphere, be there April 20.

The golf season is finally starting and with your continued

support and all the new activities taking place, this year has

the potential to be one of our best ever.

Manager’s Notes by Raymond J. Tugend

Dear Valued Lancaster Members:

As I sit in my office typing this message, I can see Gary and his team starting to get the course

and grounds ready for Spring Golf. What an amazing feeling it is to see green grass and life out-

doors. With that being said it is a very important time of year for our club. While we have en-

dured a pretty good off season with members resigning the club we need to focus on the getting in

as many new members as possible over the next 90 days.

The Amnesty Program has been approved and well received by many. If you have a former friend

who left the club I would love to arrange a time to sit and talk with them. I assure you this is not a

sales pitch but simply would be a discussion about the positive direction the club is headed. They

will ultimately decide if they want to give the new management team a shot. Please have them con-

tact me directly at 684-3700 x 11.

Also, as mentioned in previous correspondences, the Board of Directors and Management have

agreed to eliminate the Initiation Fee for a period of time to help drive in new members. We need

your help in identifying anyone who might be interested in enjoying the exclusive experience a fine

private club provides. Jocelyn Kowalczyk, Director of Sales, will ensure they are treated with the

utmost kindness and respect when they are touring the grounds. All I ask is to submit a name or

two and let her do the rest. She can be reached at 684-3700 x 13. We need your help!

Lastly, the management team is embarking on an aggressive social media campaign to help get the

word out about the “New” Lancaster Country Club. I would encourage you to like the Lancaster Fa-

cebook page and share the message with all your friends. This is the fastest and easiest way to

get the word out about our awesome club and the exciting activities members will enjoy this year.

Additionally, you will be hearing about the club on the radio and TV over the next few weeks. It is

an all hands-on deck approach to help increase our membership base.

The entire team and I are so excited and blessed to be part of such a great club, we look forward

to much success in 2018. As usual please feel free to stop in my office (located upstairs in the

main office) to chat or just say hi, I enjoy interacting with the members very much.

Sincerely,

Raymond Tugend, PGA

General Manager

Grounds Update by Gary Powers

The weather has been the story for the month of March. It certainly put a damper on what we

can get accomplished out on the golf course along with trying to open the course up for the

season. The extended forecast for the next ten days doesn’t look any brighter. The one positive

out of it is our greens have come through winter in good shape.

We will continue to monitor the weather and course conditions and once we see the opportuni-

ty to open we will. I know this weather will test everyone’s patience but the season is definitely

around the corner and we can then all enjoy the game we love.

News from the Golf Shop by Mike Dziabo

April is here. And that means The Masters, baseball opening day and LCC tee times begin. On April 15th the following will begin (based on

the course being open for play…fingers crossed): • Tee times and tee time policies and restrictions will start. I will send out a refresher for the online tee time system the week prior. • GHIN handicap posting is scheduled to start • Bag room storage and club cleaning will begin

• Locker room service and shoe cleaning will begin

Event and league updates. Please review the flyers in this newsletter for upcoming May events: ABCD opening scramble, Ladies Opening Day, Ladies Spring Handicap, Men’s Member-Member and Couples Night Out. The Women’s 9-hole league, 2 & Out league & Men’s League still have open sign ups available. If you are still interested in playing, please contact the golf shop.

When spring golf begins, you will find the golf course and greens very soft. Please help the course by keeping your cart on the cart path as much as possible, even if 90 degree rule is in place. Also ball marks are more likely and deeper this time of year. Please help by fixing your

ball mark on the green and two others. Fixing the ball mark immediately will ensure healthy repair of the mark in the quickest time possible. Unrepaired ball marks will leave brown or dirt circles on the green that will not heal and leave undesirable putting surfaces. Complimentary divot tools are available in the golf shop if you should need one.

Did you missed out on breaking up the season cart pass over 3 months during the month of March? If so, during the month of April, you can purchase the season cart pass and break up the payments over 2 months. Please call or email me in the golf shop to register.

Lastly, I would like to welcome aboard new Assistant Golf Professional, Alex Deering. Alex has previously worked at Westwood CC and

then more recently Fox Valley and Tan Tara Golf Club. Alex will be assisting in every aspect of the golf operation, tournaments, leagues and clinics. He will also be available for private golf lessons. Be sure to stop by and say hello.

See you at the Club!

THIS IS THE MOST FUN OUR WOMEN HAVE AT LANCASTER COUNTRY CLUB!

2 & Out Ladies League

Time: 5:30 pm Clinic with one of the Golf Professionals 6:00 pm Out to the course for two holes of golf

Date: Starts Wednesday, May 9th and runs 11 weeks with a last date of August 8th

Off weeks during this time: No Clinics June 6, July 4, and July 11

Cost: $100.00 (Includes weekly clinics, 2 holes of golf and final dinner with 9-hole ladies league)

Details: To help those ladies that may not have played golf before or have played golf

but feel they are not ready to participate in a 9-hole league. The overall goal of the 2 &

Out League is to prepare the ladies to graduate and move up to the 9-hole league as

their skill level improves. We will accomplish this in a group setting of comparable skill

level designed to be fun while learning. The clinics before golf will touch rules, eti-

quette, terminology, handicap/scoring and basics of the golf swing. The 2 holes on the

golf course will be a non-competitive learning environment. Over the first few weeks,

depending on skill level of ladies involved, the pro will assist the ladies through the golf

holes. Teachable opportunities will arise during this time: where and how to tee off to

start the hole, strategies to playing the hole, club selection, bunker and basic on

course etiquette rules they would run into during play. Play on the course should finish

about the same time the 9-hole league finishes and everyone would be able to partici-

pate in the clubhouse activities afterwards.

Women’s Association News - by Mary Ellen Puleri

The first few days of Spring brought some welcome sunshine, but snow was still on the ground as the temperatures didn’t climb very high. But that is all behind us and we are looking forward to seeing the fairways and greens come to life.

We had several events in March that brought the Lancaster ladies together for some food and fun. We held a Bunco night on March 8 and Peg Lawrie had a last minute bunco at the head table to give her the crown (and 1st prize) for the evening. Congratulations to our reigning Bunco queen!

On March 18, the club hosted our 2nd annual Lancaster Ladies Love Brunch. It was open to all ladies of the club and the ambience, food, drinks and conversa-tion could not have been better. Thank you again to Ray Tugend and all of the staff who made this a memorable start to the season.

Reminder – the registration deadline for the Wednesday Night Ladies Leagues (including 2 and out) is April 20th (5 pm). Please call the Golf shop (683-1854) or email Mike – [email protected] to get your name on the list or if you have any questions.
