Lamplighter Crystal River United Methodist Church January 2012

Dear Friends,

2012 will be a year that will bring change to our political fabric in this country. This is a presidential

election year and we will see a constant barrage of political ads and debates going forward to Novem-

ber 6th. What will be the outcome is any ones guess.

What does 2012 hold for Crystal River United Methodist Church? You and I can not answer that

question with specific details, but we can say this: God holds the future and if we trust in Him He will

lead us into the kind of future that will bring glory to Him. The key to our future is to rely on the

leading of God’s Holy Spirit.

As we begin 2012, God’s leading has been at work in directing the leadership team with Char Waters,

our treasure, through a transitional period of finding a new treasure for Crystal River UMC. This

leading of the Holy Spirit began before my arrival and I have been blessed to work with the leader-

ship team in asking God to find the right person to serve in this very important ministry. Char has

given the last ten years of her life to serving the church as the Treasure. She has helped to direct the

finances as God has lead her and the leadership team, and we as a church have been blessed by her

ten years of service to this ministry. Thank you Char for your service to God and to Crystal River

UMC.

The leading of the Spirit has prompted Sherri Soluri to accept the leadership of serving as the new

Treasure for 2012. We are blessed to have Sherri step up and a say “Yes” to God’s leading and to

take on this very important ministry task. Please pray for Sherri that God will give her the insight as

she leads in this ministry, and please pray a prayer of blessing for Char as the out going treasure.

We will begin a new sermon series on Sunday January 15th, entitled “The God Pocket.” We will

discover that, God Owns It, You and I have the privilege to carry it, and when we understand this,

suddenly everything changes in how we see God’s provision for our lives. I hope you invite a friend

and will join me in this new series.

Please make sure the front office has your correct e-mail address, because we are sending out weekly

up-dates to the current events and happenings at Crystal River UMC and we want you to be included

in connecting with these opportunities.

In 2012, let us do as Hebrews 13:15-16 tells us to do as a faith community: “Through Jesus, there-

fore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise, the fruit of lips that openly profess his

name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is

pleased”

Peace and Blessings,

Cookie Walk

What a fantastic Cookie Walk we had. As in previous years, the crowds came and the crowds went home

happy. The only down side was that the cookies ran out before everyone was able to fill a box, this in spite

that there were so many more cookies baked this year. Thanks to all our cookie makers as well as those who

came to buy.

Angels Galore

What an amazing congregation! You stepped up to the Angel Tree and took every request home to fill. The

children of all ages residing at Mission on Citrus this Christmas were blessed by your generosity. UMW

Mission Funds (that come from fundraisers such as the Cookie Walk) were used to supplement children’s

needs and wish lists.

Come join the Discovery Group on Thursday, Jan. 5 and live vicariously through the pictures

and knowledge of Judy Fowler as she shares one of her in-depth travel experiences. Her talk

will begin at 11 a.m. Bring your own lunch as well as a friend. And, if you wish, something to

share for dessert.

Greeting to all I hope all had a Merry Christmas and started off with a good New Year. After the presents and all the excitement of the holiday season, now is the time to think on how we can better serve the Lord for the New Year. Last year was a great year for CRUMY. We went on one of the most blessed mission trips that I have ever been a part of. We also went for a Confirmation weekend retreat and a youth rally called Imprint to Warren Willis United Methodist Church Camp. We also attended an awesome youth rally in Ocala. The most amazing part of our year was 5 youth accepted Christ as there Savior and Lord! We have already started planning for our summer mission trip so it is at this time we ask that everybody start praying for a blessed and safe trip. We are looking into doing 1 large fund raiser this year with a dinner and a dance in March. More news to come on place and time. We will be doing a local spring mission trip to help some of our members. With the year starting 2012, it’s hard to believe that Marie and I have been youth leaders for 6 years! Sometimes it takes all we have to stay strong. But, more of the time they keep us strong and bless our lives to the point of we don’t know what we would do without them in our lives. We are so blessed to have such a strong support group. Without them we would never be able to do this. Cristy Ingram is our ROCK! She is with us all the way, no matter what we are doing, or where we are going. And we can never forget the most AWESOME part of all this is the YOUTH of Crystal River United Methodist Church. They are some of the most amazing young people you will ever meet. They have hearts as big as they are and a fire for God. It is our HONOR to serve them. Please continue to pray for all the youth of our church and our country, they face many obstacles that many of us have never even thought about. They are our future. In Christ Holy Name, Scott and Marie Witte
