IntroductionNational Gypsum has a tradition ofimproving products through innova-tion – a tradition that continues todaywith the introduction of the GoldBond BRAND XP Gypsum Board withSporgard™.* Sporgard is the mostsophisticated mold fighting technologyfor building materials available today, and National Gypsum is proud to bethe first building products companyto offer it. Sporgard is a combinationof mold inhibitors manufactured intobuilding materials for the mostadvanced defense against mold. Thetechnology comes from Syngenta,a world leader in mold control.

DescriptionGold Bond BRAND XP Gypsum Boardwas developed as an improved mois-ture resistant board offering the sameadvantages of a traditional moistureresistant board with added moldresistance in the core and paper. XPGypsum Board panels consist of aspecially treated, fire resistant, gypsumcore encased in a heavy, mold/mildew/moisture resistant, 100% recycled, purple paper on the face side anda heavy, mold/mildew/moistureresistant, 100% recycled, gray paperon the back side.XP Gypsum Board was designed toprovide extra protection against moldand mildew compared to standardwallboard products. The face paper isfolded around the long edges toreinforce and protect the core, andthe ends are square-cut and finishedsmooth. Long edges of the panelsare tapered.Tapered edges allow joints to bereinforced with ProForm® BRAND JointTape and concealed with ProFormbrand Ready Mix, ProForm EasyFinish® Ready Mix or ProFormSta-Smooth Setting Compounds. For optimum mold and mildewperformance, National Gypsumrecommends ProForm XP Ready Mix.

Gold Bond XP Fire-Shield® GypsumBoard features a Type X core toprovide additional fire resistanceratings when used in tested systems.Gold Bond XP Fire-Shield C GypsumBoard Panels have a specially formu-lated Type X core to achieve superiorperformance when used in specificfire-rated assemblies.

Certified® for indoor air quality

Fire Resistance RatingsFire resistance ratings represent theresults of tests on assemblies madeup of specific materials in a specificconfiguration. When selectingconstruction designs to meet certainfire resistance requirements, cautionmust be used to ensure that eachcomponent of the assembly is theone specified in the test. Furtherprecautions should be taken thatassembly procedures are in accordancewith those of the tested assembly. For copies of specific tests, call1-800-NATIONAL. Mold and MildewResistanceXP Gypsum Board with Sporgard wasdesigned to provide extra protectionagainst mold and mildew comparedto standard wallboard products.Whentested by an independent laboratory,XP Gypsum Board with Sporgardreceived the highest possible ratingson ASTM G 21 and D 3273.The use of XP Gypsum Board in actualinstallations may not produce the sameresults as were achieved in controlledlaboratory conditions. No material can beconsidered “mold proof,” nor is it certainthat any material will resist mold ormildew indefinitely. When used in con-junction with good design, handling andconstruction practices, XP Gypsum Boardcan provide increased mold resistanceversus standard wallboard products. Aswith any building material, avoidingwater exposure during handling, storageand installation, and after installation iscomplete, is the best way to avoid theformation of mold or mildew.
