General Announcement The National Trust for Historic Preservation. (11 most endangered places designation) Ladies and Gentlemen, members of the media, honored guests and colleagues - Thank you for joining us today for this incredibly exciting announcement. Just over a year ago a process began that we hoped would ensure Mokuaikaua Church (Hawaii's first Church) would remain a state and national treasure for generations to come. The 2006 earthquake inflicted extensive structural damage, threatening the long term existence of this treasure. This is why we are so pleased to announce to you today that the National Trust for Historic Preservation has designated Mokuai- kaua Church as one of Americas 11 Most Endangered Places!!! This designation is a great honor and we believe will bring the attention and resources needed to preserve this historic site as we prepare to celebrate our 195th anniversary. What this designation means: Perhaps even more exciting is the opportunity we have to remind Hawaii and the Nation of the Christian Heritage Mokuaikaua Church represents. For hun- dreds of years a well known Hawaiian prophecy told of a Black Box that would bring peace and salvation to the islands. When the first Christian Missionaries arrived here In 1820, Thomas Hopu (a native of the big island and recently educated at Yale University) presented the King and Queen with a Bible inside a Black Box. Thomas Hopu could never have guessed that just a short time before his arrival the old religion on the is- lands was abolished and the people were waiting with hope for its replacement. The Royal family embraced the God of the Bible and gave the land to build Mokuaikaua Church just across the way from the Royal Pal-ace! From this point Churches were started across the islands and around the world. Hawaii became one of the most educated kingdoms on earth and a new era was begun. Today, I believe this Historic Designation is also launching a new era to not only renovate this “treasure” but to pray for revival here on the Big Island, across the State and Nation. Plans are underway to renovate the church steeple and property and to celebrate its completion in 2020 - which will also be our 200th anniversary.

This is a great undertaking and will require great support and financial resources to accomplish. Information on how to be involved can be found on the church website and printed material you’ll receive today. In closing I want to thank the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the media for sharing our message with the world and all the people that have visited or called Mokuaikaua Church home over the past 194 years. May God continue to use Hawaii’s oldest church to change lives and nations. Please see our website for the live video presentation. www.mokuaikaua.com Me Ke Aloha, Kahu David

Dear Mokuaikaua Family,

It is with such joy I see our little girls grow up and fall in love with Jesus and His Word. Children have such a special place on the Lord's heart, what is more fulfilling than to be a part in the proc-ess of leading them to Him?

That is why in April we have started a Sunday School program for the little children up to 4 years old where there is a lot of play, singing and also sharing about the love of God in Jesus Christ with them. The children then make a craft that goes with the theme of that morning.

I (Anneke) have seen this group of under 4 years old grow up to 8 children on a Sunday morning and we would love to see more people get on board in "training up our little ones in the way they should go so that when they are older they will not depart from it (Prov 22:6)"!

Each Sunday we have one main teacher and one assistant. We are looking for 2 main teachers (adults) and 4 assistants (adults or teenagers) willing to join our team!

Interested?

For more information contact: Anneke: [email protected], or call: 808-344 5722.
