Principal’s Report
Excursions
Big thank you to all of the staff who have attended excursions over the past few
weeks. The experiences offered to students on these excursions are invaluable and
we appreciate all of the organisation and time away from your families that you
devote to providing offsite experiences to the students of LMPS.
Zone Athletics Carnival
Due to the Zone Athletics Carnival being a wash out, it has been rescheduled to 23/9/19. As this date clashes with the Special Photos Day, we are endeavouring to reschedule the photos. A new date will be advised as soon as it has been secured.
Smart Watches
Smart watches at school fall under the same policy and rules as electronic devices. If
they are required for after school communication, they need to be dropped in to the
office each morning, like a mobile phone, unless your child has been granted special
permission. Whilst the watches can be a lot of fun, they are a distraction during
lessons and safer in the office during school time.
Riding to school
If students wish to ride their bike or scooter to school, they must wear a helmet.
Wearing a helmet reduces the risks of injury if they are involved in a collision.
Students who are not wearing a helmet, will be required to walk their bike or scooter
due to safety concerns. Skateboards are not permitted.
Spelling Bee Regional
A huge congratulations to Carissa, Layla and Ravi who represented LMPS at the
Regional Spelling Bee on Thursday. The students all worked through the easier
words, successfully progressing to the very tricky and difficult words. In the junior
completion, Ravi triumphed, achieving an impressive second place. In the senior
division, Carissa came 6th out of 35 students with the word ‘stupefied’ posing as a
challenge. Layla was faced with the word ‘algebraic’, successfully spelling it to be
awarded FIRST PLACE. We are
very proud of their achievements.
Thank you,
Kristie Weekes

Year 5 Bathurst Excursion Cars pulled up with children. The bus was waiting to drive us to Bathurst. The roll was marked, everyone
was here! IT WAS TIME TO LEAVE! We were so excited! We waved to our parents, we had a long drive
ahead of us!
At Echo Point the first thing we saw was the Three Sisters. When you first see them, they take your breath
away, they are part of the most beautiful view. When we got out of the bus Ava puked but that didn’t stop
us. We had so much fun. We had lunch, a toilet break then off we went to the next stop.
Only one word that came to mind when we got out of the bus at Scenic
World...wondrous! Everyone couldn’t wait to explore this amazing place! First,
we went on the steepest railroad in the world. Lots of people nearly fell off their
seats but we still have fun. Once we were down, there was only one way back up
and how was that you may ask (and Mr Rowe and Will did)? Well it was a cable
car. It went across the mountains and waterfalls. What an amazing time we had
at Scenic World!
“SHH, I NEED TO FOCUS!’’ cried Tony our bus driver. The squeeze through the
Jenolan Arch was as tight as a small pair of skinny jeans. It was like we had to
squeeze our tummies in just to fit through! We went into the Lucas cave and
watched a light show. As we walked through the caves, we saw all the amazing
crystal formations (that we weren’t allowed to touch).
Off the bus at last and into our accommodation. The Ebenzer cabins, with six rooms were for the girls. The
teachers got two of the rooms. There was a bathroom with a shower in the girl’s cabins. Eureka cabins
were the boy cabins, they had to share a bathroom. There were four cabins including Mr Rowe's room. We
were allocated our rooms and chose our beds for the rest of the stay.
Loud was the only word we could think of when we entered the dining room. We had meat pies and hot
chips for our first dinner. The hot food was refreshing after a long and cold day. It was a great time to
catch up and talk about the amazing first day. The teachers were spoiled and were served chicken. For
dessert the teachers got pavlova and we just got ice cream sticks.
Once we were full, we headed to the campfire for some singing, dancing and campfire stories. Jason told
us all about shearers, told us many really lame sheep jokes (that were baaa’d) and taught us a song or two.
It was then time to grab a partner and kick up some dust and do some bush
dancing.
We weren’t allowed to have any lollies after dinner because we wouldn’t get to
sleep. We brushed our teeth and got ready for bed. Something tickled Carissa’s
foot and she giggled and screamed; it was amusing. In cabin 2, Alyssa slid on a
bathroom tile and hurt her arm and it was extremely funny we couldn’t stop
laughing. So, we “laughed, clapped and went back to sleep!’’
6:30a.m. Ms Weekes opened the door. “45 minutes to get ready!”. Everyone was
running around trying to get showered, beds made, floor cleaned, bags tidied. 45
minutes was up. Ms Weekes did a room inspection. Then we headed off to
breakfast. We had a choice of just hot food or hot food and cereal. The breakfast
room was super loud. There was one other school in the breakfast room, so we blamed them!
We entered an old-fashioned building that looked to be set in the
1850s.There were lots of cool rocks and crystals. As we left the building at
back, we saw a small replica gold mine. After walking down the hill to see the
mine shafts we saw a steam machine. After watching how the steam engine
worked, we headed off for our sausage sandwich.
As soon as we saw the activities, we knew fun would be had. We were split
up into 4 groups. There was damper making, making mud bricks, tent
constructing & old-fashioned games. For the games we had tug-of-war, cannon ball and horseshoe throwing. To
make the mud bricks we had to use hay and mud. We made damper on a stick and had golden syrup to
complement it. When we made tents, we had mini competitions, like how many people could fit in one tent. It
was such fun.
After a mix up with our souvenir shopping, we went on a tour of the amazing Bathurst. We stopped at a park and
all the kids were very excited as the park looked like so much fun. It started raining just after Tony, the bus driver,
dropped us of at the park with Ms Weekes, Mr Rowe and Mrs Dyson-Smith. We waited under the shelter for Tony
and Mrs Caban to bring the bus back (from the coffee run).
Excited (and hungry) we rushed in for tea, lining up waiting to see what we were
having. Cooper was complaining that he doesn't eat pasta sauce but most of us
were so hungry we would eat anything. When we went back to our cabins it was
downtime (that’s when we got some free time). We had some visitors (aka the
boys). There were some rules for downtime - that were not closing the doors or
hopping on the beds. We played cards and snap which was pretty fun. 9.30pm it
was bedtime.
Next morning, we left our cabins and went to breakfast. Once again it was loud.
We had pancakes, hash browns and toast. We all hopped on the bus went for a
drive around Bathurst. Then we went back to the top Mount
Panorama (and talked about trees).
We stepped inside the Fossil & Mineral Museum and it was full of exciting and
interesting things to look at like dinosaur fossils, dino eggs, gems and creatures
trapped in amber. It was amazing to learn about the rocks and how they were formed. We saw a giant prehistoric
egg from an Elephant Bird and held dinosaur artefacts.
An informing bus trip home with Tony telling us all about Bathurst was next.
We watched some movies and thought about how many fun and exciting
things we did in Bathurst. Sadly, it rained but not too hard and we still had fun
on the bus. We did a couple of toilet runs and a lunch stop. After a couple
hours on the bus and a lot of talking we arrive at school. Our loved ones were
standing there waiting for us to give them a huge hug and kiss.
What a couple of days we had! So many fun and exciting activities. We learnt
SO many interesting facts about Bathurst, the way they lived in the ‘before’
days, how gold was mined and all the different types of gold. Also, how to live
without our parents (we barely survived!)
We would like to give a big thanks to all our parents for allowing us to go on
this fantastic trip, our bus driver, Tony and especially to our wonderful
teachers.
