3) Suggested image resolution is at least 300 for 8 bit CT images and 600 for 1 bit line art.

5) All type should have a safety margin of at least .1875” from the trim to avoid clipping during production.

Using the Lake Book standard presets does not guarantee the proper creation of PDF files from InDesign. It will help create a fundamentally correct PDF file, but several other design considerations must also be followed. These include but are not limited to those listed below.

NOTE: The PDF version is set correctly in the preset file, but make sure when creating the PDF files submitted to LBM that they are PDF version 1.6 or lower.

For text pages that have images that cross over a two page spread:

The binding style will determine if a crossover adjustment is required

Perfect Binding:No adjustment is needed. The image should be left as is across the pages.Try to avoid having critical type directly in the the bind area (gutter).

Side Sewn Binding:There are 2 different options for crossovers in Side Sewn books.

Option 1: Create the entire book with a .1875” smaller trim than needed. Our imposition department will add the split and spread during the layout stage.

repeating image in gutter

Option 2: 1) Create the book with the correct trim size. 2) Place the image across the 2 page spread

using 2 picture boxes and align them perfectly at the gutter.

This can be done by placing the image across the spread, duplicating and pasting in place, then using the selection tool move the left and right holding boxes to the gutter.

3) One aligned, select the image on the left hand page with the item tool and move the image .1875” to the left.

Select the image on the right hand page with the item tool and move the image .1875” to the right.

This will create a crossover with repeating image in the gutter.
