    This is Lady Liberty like you've never seen her -- all chopped up. In 1883, men toiled away

    in a workshop in France to hammer sheets of copper into the Statue of Liberty. LadyLiberty stands 111'1" from heel to top of head, in flats of course.

    In 1984 Lady Liberty's torch was lowered for repairs. The Statue's current torch, which is acopper flame covered in 24K gold, was completed in 1986. It's seen here underconstruction in 1984 and 1985

    Lady Liberty's last torch, which weighed 1.5 tons, was dramatically removed on July 5,1984. The Statue of Liberty recently underwent renovations after damaged sustained byHurricane Sandy in Oct. 2012. America's iconic symbol of freedom officially reopened onJuly 4, 2013.
