The anti-microbial effect is mainly caused by the chelation of iron-ions, which are important for bacterial growth. Besides that, lactoferrin is reported to be an antioxidant that may strengthen the immune response by supporting the proliferation, differentiation and activation of immune cells. Lactoferrin is found in mucosal secretions, urine and plasma but the highest concentration of lactoferrin is found in milk and colostrum. After the European Food Safety Authority approved bovine lactoferrin as a novel food ingredient in 2012, the demand for this substance has exploded due to the application in baby powder milk, especially in China. The addition of Lactoferrin does not only improve the quality of the milk powder but also makes it more expensive. To monitor the concentration of added bovine lactoferrin, the EuroProxima brand of R-Biopharm presents the Lactoferrin FAST ELISA. We would like to advise our customers that RIDASCREEN® Histamin ELISA in 48-well format (Art. No. R1604) will be discontinued in 2020 due to low demand. Customers prefer the kit in its 96 well format (Art. No. R1601) and this kit will continue to be offered in our portfolio.
The current stock of R1604 should be available until the fourth quarter of 2020 therefore we can still receive orders until this stock is gone. This announcement is to give our customers advanced warning about future changes to enable a smooth changeover to the kit in the 96-well format.
