Dear Friends, As we look back on the year, we cannot even begin to find adequate words for our gratitude. We so appreciate your commitment, generosity, sacrifice, and

partnership as you stand with us to share the heart of God with the beautiful people of

Botswana and beyond.

In 2013, we celebrated a quarter century of ministry in Africa! We commemorated the milestone with the grand opening of the Life Centre and a 25th Anniversary Trip that enabled partners to celebrate with us in Maun, Botswana. A wonderful group of friends, Board members, and partners joined us, and even more of you were with us in spirit through your special notes, pictures, and video messages. What a joyous celebration it was — filled with gratitude for the last 25 years of God’s work and brimming with faith for the years still to come.

A long-awaited dream of seeing the rich African sand give way to a state-of-the-art facility became a reality as we officially opened the community Life Centre for the people of Maun. Almost 800 people gathered for the momentous occasion, including government officials, community leaders, and international partners. It was an exciting and significant way to launch this incredible resource for the greater Maun area.

We ended 2013 by gathering our Board of Directors for a time of strategic planning. We brought in a facilitator gifted at organizational development and marketing with a spiritual perspective. We worked together to clarify and more clearly define the vision and strategy of each program and ministry within the entire organization. Our vision hasn’t changed — we still exist to advance the Gospel of Christ in Africa and beyond. We have simply been purposeful to recalibrate in order to stay on target as we move ahead as a ministry.

Through your faithful giving and fervent prayers, you labor with us in the matchless work of developing Christian leaders around the world. Let’s celebrate together the amazing things God has done! From our hearts, friends, we thank you…

Vision. Mission. Strategy. In 2013, the Lackey Ministries' Board gathered to fine tune the ministry’s vision and mission statement. What came from that time together was a renewed and clarified sense of purpose.

Vision: To advance the Gospel of Christ in Africa and beyond

Mission: To mobilize strategic partners in order to invest in the development of Christian leaders around the globe

Lackey Ministries remains committed to bringing sustainable transformation through the power of the Gospel. In order to accomplish this vision on a global scale, LMI now has two initiatives through which it works: Love Botswana Outreach Mission Trust in Botswana and Lackey World Reach in the USA. Each has its own programs and projects aimed at impacting the world with the Gospel in innovative ways.

The Village Church and branch churches: Evangelical programs and projects focused on community transformation through the Gospel, including Love Botswana Bible InstituteOkavango International School: Pre-primary, primary, and secondary English Medium School focused on quality education and sound moral development with a Biblical focusHands of Hope: Social welfare and community development programs, including Lorato House Rescue Centre and many other projects relating to orphaned and vulnerable children and youthInternational Volunteers: Attracting and developing international volunteers who wish to engage in cross-cultural outreach work and exploring a call to foreign or full-time ministryMedia and Communications: Recording studio, quarterly devotional magazine (Word for Today), and a future training hub for development of recording skills

LWR is poised to provide development services to strategic organizations around the globe. The primary goal is to aid those serving the disadvantaged, particularly children and youth, in all parts of the world by providing training and support to maximize long-term effectiveness and sustainability. This is accomplished through the provision of training and/or financial support. As pioneers in missions with vast experience in developing leaders, the Lackeys are passionate about pursuing new mentoring opportunities to assist local organizations in developing countries. The projects are primarily one-time events or short-term projects where teaching, ministry, and mentoring occur. Outreaches were aimed at China, southern Botswana, and Australia for 2013 and into the future.

Grand Opening of the Life Centre Jerry and Jana Lackey celebrated 25 years in Africa and officially opened Love Botswana’s state-of-the-art community Life Centre for the people of Maun.

It also houses the only indoor basketball court in Botswana, community meeting spaces, offices for counseling and outreach to the region, a recording a studio, a bookstore, and a gymnasium. The programs that run there provide educational and recreational opportunities, support the development of leadership and entrepreneurial skills, and help people grow in their faith journey. These programs include:

Lorato House Rescue Centre We continue to provide a stable and loving environment for infants and young children in crisis through Lorato House Rescue Centre. In 2013, we had 16 children in our care, from 5 months to 5 years of age. In total, we've placed 6 children with foster families and 9 have been reunited with their birth families. It is so beautiful to see Psalm 68:6 come to life through this vital ministry to the least of these: "God sets the lonely in families."

Partner Communications & Relations LMI made a high priority of reinforcing our U.S. office and bringing greater consistency to our partner communications in 2013. We brought on a weekly volunteer in our Houston office, strengthening and increasing the capacity of our Stateside team. We are proud to say that we now send out monthly newsletters and tax receipts, have broadened our team of partners, streamlined systems, enhanced our fund development plan, and communicate more effectively with our valued supporters.

Love Botswana Bible Institute Love Botswana initially launched its Bible School in 2003 to holistically train and equip strong Christian leaders. A decade later, Love Botswana Bible Institute continues to live up to its strategic vision — empowering Believers with theological training as well as practical ministry skills. LBBI graduates can be found leading in a variety of capacities around the world — as lawyers, doctors, pastors, musicians, teachers, social workers, and more.

cheerful and calm presence, she has tremendously strengthened LMI’s U.S. office structure, as well as brought great consistency and clarity to partner

precious new granddaughter, Claire.

and communications strategy. Alece is a copywriter and editor, the founder and curator of the OneWord365 online community, and a frequent writer for several

online magazines and blogs. She laughs loudly, dances in the car, and could quite possibly live on chips and salsa.

Connie Hillman has a passion for serving God and loving people, which led her to volunteer weekly at our Houston office in 2013. For five months, she assisted with newsletters, mailings, tax receipts, and donor correspondence. Her crucial

involvement helped make it possible for LMI to become so much more consistent in our partner communications. Connie is a mother of three, and has

three wonderful grandchildren.

Cynthia Curry served as LMI’s Development Director, assisting with fund development and grant writing. A Certified Grants Specialist since 2005, she is the founder of Image Builders, a company dedicated to funding nonprofits. Passionate about ministry and volunteer work, she is an active member of Lakewood Church and serves on various boards. Linda Madeksho, LMI’s Global Strategist, is passionate about helping individuals and organizations transform their dreams into a thriving reality. An apostolic visionary herself, she is especially gifted in pioneering new work and creative strategies. For 22 years, Linda served as the Executive Director of The Bridge, a crisis intervention center for women in Houston. She has been involved with LMI since 2000, serving as LBOM’s Chief Operations Officer for almost a decade before transitioning into her new role. As our Global Strategist, Linda provides crucial guidance and cross-cultural understanding to our various Boards and executive leadership teams. She loves spending time with her children and grandchildren; enjoys knitting, gardening, and antiquing; and has mastered the art of shopping from an iPad.

We want to share with you this note from Jennifer Gray, one of our vital partners who traveled to

Botswana for our Anniversary Trip.

:: :: ::

The trip was awesome – I never would have dreamed I’d go to Africa! I felt so at home the whole time I was there.

Memorable moments include seeing the Love Botswana campus in person. WOW! The school was so big, all the classrooms, dorms, etc. And I loved seeing the trailers. I told Jerry and Jana that I hoped they never get rid of those old trailers so that people could always see the humble beginnings. Oh, my – starting to get teary-eyed thinking about it again! I felt God’s presence so sweetly while I was there! I loved seeing Lorato House Rescue Centre. I’m so thankful that those babies and children have a safe place to live and recover and thrive!

The Life Centre is HUGE and beautiful! WOW! The dedication ceremony was wonderful, getting to tour the building afterwards and seeing all of the wonderful things that can be done with and in the building — what a blessing that’s going to be to the whole community!

I loved staying at the Mission, and hope to go back some day to actually stay and work at the Mission and help in whatever way I can. I’m asking the Lord what’s next. I really want to go back. I really want to be more involved!

Following this trip, Jennifer felt God calling her to prepare for full-time ministry. She is currently in

Bible School in Colorado.

Thank you, partners and friends, for continuing to stand with us for even greater things in Southern

Africa.
