The name suggests the element 'air', as opposed to Caliban, who is associated with the Earth by Prospero. Ariel means "Lion of God" in Hebrew so it is interesting to note that Ariel was voiced occasionally as the roar of a lion.Caliban, a savage and deformed slave. Its name could come from "Carib (be) an", with the possible implicit meaning of "Cannibal"
