    Bali Officials Pledge to CrackDown on Il legal TouristTransport and UnlicensedT ax i s a s R e g i s t e r e dOperators Ask Why theyShould Obey Rules thatAren't Enforced.

According to a report inBali Post, the increasing presenceof tourist transport operatingillegally in Bali is angering both

of f ic ia ls o f the prov inc ia lTransportation, Information and

Communication Serviceand the membership of the BaliTourism Transport Association(PAWIBA).

To combat the problemofficials have deployed anenforcement team to take sternsteps against tourist transportoperating outside their assigned

routes, illegal rented vehicles andunlicensed taxis.

Said the chief of Balitransportation agency, MadeSantha, on Monday, April 18,2011: "Tourist transport fromoutside of Bali operating illegallyin Bali will be ticketed. Moreover, these vehicles lacking legal Baliregistrations will be sent back totheir originating areas."

Santha blamed the illegaltourist transport in Bali withdisrupting the operations oflicensed transport operators. "Wehave called on provincial revenue

off icers to p repare c learguidelines on illegal non-Bali

Transportation Agency(Dishub) has only been able tomove if we caught the subjectvehicles actual ly carryingpassengers," Santha added.

In response to complaintsfrom shuttle bus operators alongKuta beach who are blamingviolations committed by tourist

    bus operators with causing trafficjams, Santha said he would leavethe that problem to be handled byt h e B a d u n g r e g e n c yadministration.

The head of the BaliTourist Transport Association(PAWIBA), Bagus Soediana, stated earlier that tourist transportfrom outside Bali were clearlyunderselling local transportoperators. Said Soediana, "if thisis allowed to continue, thetransport operators in Bali whoremain diligent in obtaining therequired operating permits will

become 'lazy' in securing permitsin the future."

The National new service,Antara, quotes, I Gde Pitana, anofficial of the Ministry of Culture

and Tourism as rejectingclaims from some quarters thatBali has reached the limits of itscarrying capacity.

According to Pitana whoonce served as the chief oftourism for the province, Balireceives 2.5 million tourist eachyear, a number far less that the 11

million visitors to theanother island destinationSingapore. Pitana believes Bali'sability to handle even morevisitors is tied to a lack ofadequate infrastructure, ainsufficiency being addressedwith new road projects and plansfor a new airport in North Bali.

Bali's actual number oftourist arrivals, when domestictourist are also included in the

The Happy Meal has been ahuge hit for McDonald's -- makingthe company one of the world'slargest toy distributors -- andspawning me-too offerings at mostother fast-food chains.

But lately it also has come

Day again punters and I hope your Easter weekend was agood one. It was a big week with many things happening

over the past weekend, with my favourite being the ANZACday celebrations. I was up early to watch a dawn service onthe Australia network and was surprised to find out that way

back when the diggers (both Australian and New Zealand) stormed thebeach our troops lost around 7 thousand men. The thing that surprisedme was that 8 thousand people travelled to Gallipoli to honour our

brave soldiers. I take my hat off to all the families of all the men and women that have served in our armedforces all over the world. Well done. With ANZAC day came the traditional clash between the mighty Pies and Essendon, with the Pies

coming out victors to retain the top spot. I also see the Gold Coast Sons won their f irst game against PortAdelaide, making history with their first win and starting their A.F.L Debut season. I hope they get the team inorder and play well for the rest of the year. Well done gentlemen.

I did attend the first anniversary party at Balkanika restaurant last Friday night and will say thatVesna and Robert put on a great bash. The band was great, the food was sensational and the beer was cold. The art exhibition upstairs is fantastic and they will be keeping it on show for another month so If you arelooking for a great feed and a little bit of class for an evening out with friend I urge you to get on down andcheck it out. Thanks to Balkanika for their great support.

Now, I did get some good news with regards to another one of our sponsors Piggy's Bar onPoppies Lane 2. A few weeks ago they had their 4th birthday party, and as a bonus to the punters a fewyoung chickys got themselves involved in a wetshirt contest. Now I will say punters, it was terrible as therewere about 6 very young ladies on stage with nice tight white shirts which got splashed with water, hhhmmmm, anyway, I have from a good source that the event will be a regular thing. Apparently each and

every Monday night at around 9 pm the baby splash pool is coming out and the fun will begin yippppyyy.Rock on Piggy's.Ok folks I hope you all stay safe, happy and healthy and always remember, I know that you believe

you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Enjoy your week,Karn the Pies, ALIASJ..

New York City livery cab drivers,o f ten ca l led to c r ime -r iddenneighbourhoods that yellow taxistend to ignore, are being armed withbulletproof vests

Citing some deadly attacks onthe drivers the New York StateFederation of Taxi Drivers distributedthe vests on Monday and driversstarted using them immediately.

Priority was given to driversworking the night shift in areas wherestatistics showed high incidence ofattacks -- chiefly in outlying parts ofboroughs outside Manhattan.

Livery cabs must be hiredahead of time and do not pick uppassengers off the street, unlike themore well known yellow taxis that cruiseNew York City streets looking for fares.

One dozen vests were donatedby New York-based security firmSecurity USA, adding to another 20 orso protective shields that had beenpreviously donated by retired police

officers. The company said it expects to

expand the program to meet a clearneed.

"It's just been amazing, all the

Some NY cab drivers to wear bulletproof vestscalls we've been getting

from livery drivers" since the newvests were distributed, SecurityUSA spokesman Clark Pena said.

"We want to continue this, and will do our best to get as manydrivers fitted as we can," Penasaid, adding that he was reachingout to other security firms and hadgotten a positive, enthusiastic

    response.The company donated

the $400 vests after beingcontacted by taxi federation headFernando Mateo.

A spokesman for the city'sTaxi and Limousine Commission, which regulates metered cabs, livery and other for-hire cars, declined to comment on theprogram.

Driving a taxi or livery carcan be one of the city's moredangerous jobs, the group noted,as robberies sometimes turnviolent.

Among the livery driverskilled or wounded on the job wereCesar Santos, who was fatallyshot in the Bronx last June duringa dispute with a fare who refusedto pay; Trevor Bell, 53, who died inDecember when he was shot inthe head during a robbery inQueens; and Julio Lora, who wasparalyzed after being shot in theBronx this month.

The vests will not protectdrivers from head wounds, but thegroup said the vast majority ofattacks stem from knife attacks orgunshots to the drivers' lowerback or side.

    Regent of Bali Seeks PublicSupport for Toll Way andUnderpass Project s as Meanst o E l i m i n a t e T r a f f i cCongestion.

Seputar Indonesia reportsthat a planned toll way connectingSerangan Island and Tanjung Benoain Bali will overcome current traffic

    congestion problems affecting theKuta area.

Badung's regent, A. A. GdeAgung, said: "In addition, this will besupported by the construction of anunderpass at Simpang Siur at theDewa Ruci monument, but only onthe side connecting Nusa Dua andthe Sunset Road. The underpassheading to Sanur has beencancelled."

Agung explained that the tollway from Serangan is land to TanjungBenoa and Nusa Dua covering adistance of 12 kilometers isscheduled for completion by 2013 atan estimated cost of Rp. 1.2 trillion

    ( U S $ 1 3 3 m i l l i o n ) .Meanwhile, the underpass atSimpang Siur will require theacquisition of 62 hectares of land andis also slated for completion by 2013.

"The acquisition of land willnot be very burdensome becausethere is no longer a need to build anunderpass accessing the Sanurarea," explained Agung. Face of KFC's 'Double Down' breadless burgerwasn't allowed to swallow during filming

    L E A N S N A C K I N G :KFC 's new Doub leDown Sandwich, whichhas no bread, containsjust 32.3g of fat.

    THE nation's most

    controversial foodstuffKFC's bread-free deep-f r i e d d o u b le - ch i cke nsandwich is so full-on thatthe face of the megajoulemeal was warned not toswallow it.

C o m e d i a n a n dculinary guinea pig SeamusMcAlary has spilled thebeans on the "DoubleDown", the double-chicken,double-bacon, double-cheese extravaganza that hascaptured the imagination of a nation and causeddieticians to faint.

McAlary is the star of the Double Down ad which,

in what can only be described as"conceptually brave", features two blokesplaying ping pong in nightvision goggles whileeating the 2,000 kilojoule feast.

Asked the tough questions by The DailyTelegraph, McAlary cracked and admitted hehadn't even been allowed to swallow the beastfor his own safety.

"I did chew but they had a spit bucketbecause they did suggest you should probablyspit it out into the bucket," he confessed.

    Otherwise you'll die? this reporterprobed.

"Something like that."However in a blatant attempt to pander

to his corporate masters, McAlary quicklyrevised the prognosis of a Double Down eaterfrom "death" to "They'd probably get a bit toofull".

Eventually he conceded: "The firstcouple of bites were good."

McAlary also had some advice for

impressionable kids who might try imitate hisfeat.

"I did make sure that I washed it downwith a Diet Coke,'' he assured us. "I balanced itout."

McAlary has promised the same kind ofcautious moderation in his show DobsonianReflector, which opens tonight as part of theSydney Comedy Festival.

He has described it as "whimsical" butdespite intense pressure refused to give awayany of the jokes in it.

AriesYou'll undoubtedly be relieved to learn that thecommunication planet Mercury, which is positionedin Aries, is no longer retrograde. However, thingswon't go smoothly right away. TaurusFew things upset you more than those who insist

they're loyal, then act very differently. However, withyour ruler Venus at odds with Pluto, the planet that'sabout revealing exactly such underhand manoeuvres,in the middle of next week, the odds are good you'llsoon have to confront such individuals head on.

GeminiBe wary of situations in which you can streamline thediscussion of tricky issues by summarising the facts forothers. If this means you'd leave out information youregard as being of little significance, don't do it. Whatseems of minor importance now could soon be crucial.Include absolutely everything.

CancerIf you're making plans and the process seems a realuphill struggle, pause and consider whether you'reapproaching things from the best possible angle.Urgent as things seem, take a break. When you comeback, you could spot something that could be done

very differently, and far better than before.LeoYou thrive on attention. But when that involvessomebody ordering you around, it's a very differentmatter. While you may not be happy with the way inwhich one particular individual is handling thesituation in question, they know what they're doing.Just this once, go along with them.

VirgoSometimes opportunities appear in a manner that makesit clear exactly what they are and the promise they hold. But what's coming your way won't be nearly asstraightforward. Initially you might even find themuninteresting. Explore further and you'll be amazed whatyou learn, and how much your perspective changes.

LibraNow that your ruler Venus has joined Mercury,Uranus, Jupiter and Mars in the relationship angle ofyour chart, the time has come to make somedecisions. Tempting as it is to wait until the rightmoment, things are moving swiftly. Wait too long anddestiny will make those decisions for you.

ScorpioOne of your most admirable traits is your loyalty. Once

you've committed to something or somebody, youralliance is solid. At the moment, however, events areencouraging you to review at least one of thosecommitments. Unnecessary as it seems, what comesto light will convince you that you've no choice.

SagittariusJust because you haven't yet come up with a plan that willdisentangle you from previous commitments withoutupsetting the actual individuals involved, that by nomeans indicates it's impossible. You may well be tacklingit from the wrong angle. Pause, consider your options, then begin again. You'll be amazed what you achieve.

CapricornThe trick at the moment is to stop worrying about whethercertain situations will upset others and instead focus onwhat needs to be done. During periods of transition, suchas this is, tension and upheaval are inevitable, as arecomplaints. Knowing that, focus on what you mustachieve, not others' moaning.

AquariusFew things are more satisfying than the feeling ofaccomplishment that emerges from a tough exchange ofideas that, step by step, reaches an accord. Bear this inmind now and over the coming days. While the actualdiscussions may take time, what you achieve will morethan justify the effort required.

PiscesDon't make the mistake of thinking that justbecause Mercury is no longer retrograde, all oflife's chaos will vanish. Ironically, some things maytake time to sort out, which means they'll get worsebefore the get better. Still, there's lots to be learned,

Off the mark: Edin Dzekocelebrates his first PremierLeague goal since joining Cityin January.

Edin Dzeko's first PremierLeague goal earned ManchesterCity a 1-0 win over Blackburn onT u e sd a y mo rn in g w h ichstrengthened his team's hopes ofqualifying for the ChampionsLeague.

City was heading for adisappointing draw against itsrelegation-threatened hostswhen substitute Dzeko, who hadonly been on the pitch three

minutes, finished well after theRovers defence failed to clear adangerous ball by David Silva inthe 75th minute.

    It sent City four pointsclear of fifth-placed Tottenham inthe race for the ChampionsL e a g u e a n d i n c r e a s e dBlackburn's relegation worries.

Rovers will feel hard doneby but they have now won justthree times in 17 league attemptsunder manager Steve Kean.

This was hardly a vintageCity performance but RobertoMancini's side are now clearfavourites to clinch the fourth and

final Champions League spot. They could even overtakefast-fading Arsenal, whichcurrently occupies third, aftermoving to within five points ofArsene Wenger's side with agame in hand.

S in ce i t s p re v io u sappearance on the PremierLeague stage, a miserable 3-0defeat at Liverpool, City hasclosed in on its first piece of majorsilverware for 35 years by

Dzeko scores as City sinks Roversreaching the FA Cup

    final.And Mancini kept faith

with the team that overcameneighbours ManchesterUnited in the semi-final as Citylooked to end a three-matchlosing run on the road in theleague.

Blackburn, whichstarted just above therelegation zone, desperatelyneeded a win after taking justfour points out of a possible 27.

Yet Rovers almost foundthemselves behind as early asthe third minute when Spanishinternational Silva let fly with asweetly-struck left-foot volleywhich crashed against the postwith keeper Paul Robinsonbeaten.

Robinson was almostembarrassed by AleksandarKolarov in the 10th minute, theSerbian full-back's speculative

35-yard effort dipping narrowlywide of the target. With its 10-season stay

in the top-tier in jeopardy,Blackburn, which recalledformer City striker BenjaniMwaruwari to the side, neededto seize the initiative.

But despite claims for apenalty after Vincent Kompany'schallenge on Jason Roberts, they lacked the cutting edge toseriously trouble City keeperJoe Hart.

His biggest test in a firsthalf of few chances came fromDavid Dunn's 31st minute free

kick which posed few problemsfor the England keeper. However, City survived

a major 41st minute scare whenBlackburn defender ChrisSamba outjumped both Kolarovand Gareth Barry to connectwith Michel Salgado's cross topower a header just wide.

Whatever Mancini saidto his players at half-timeappeared to have an impact asthe visitors came close to

something to crow aboutexcept this bird can't evenmanage a gobble.

Meet "Churkey", aquirky chick believed to have beenborn to a turkey mother and arooster dad.

The peculiar looking birdhas a white body, pink head, longlegs and huge feet.

But he neither crows like arooster nor gobbles like a turkey.Instead he barks.

Owner Ernie Stockdale isadamant his pet was the product ofa brief romance between rooster

    Warnie and turkey Freddy.Mismatchings between

similar species overseas haveresulted in chicks that live less thana week.

But Churkey is a month oldand, having attached from birth toMr Stockdale, sits happily on hismaster's feet.

"He's affectionate, even ifhe is a bit different," said theGippsland bird fancier.

Freddy the turkey wasgiven a boy's name as a chick - it isalmost impossible to identify abird's gender.

Being the only turkey onher farm, she was encouraged to

sit on hen's eggs to make herclucky.

When she had a clutch ofeggs, Mr Stockdale did not expectany to hatch.

But one did emergefrom a turkey egg and, aftera brief struggle, started tothrive.

"I was giving himwater from a dripper andhand feeding him his seed

because he'll only eat frommy hand and not a bowl orthe ground," Mr Stockdalesaid.

"He sort of 'imprinted' onme and thinks I'm his mum."

Sadly, Freddy rejectedher first offspring and Warniehas moved to another farm.

Melbourne Universityanimal genetics expert MikeGoddard believes Churkey is allturkey, albeit a parthenogeneticone.

    A bit like a "virgin birth",some female animals canreproduce without sex byp r o v i d i n g t h e i r o w nchromosomes, as well as thosethat would normally be neededto be provided by a male parent.

    As the T-Shirt says..boys,

    HARDEN THE #### UP !!

Not shaken, not stirred ... despiteongoing upheaval at the club,Anthony Griffin's Broncos havesurged to th e top of t he ladder.

Conventional wisdom says clubsthat punt their coach three weeks out fromthe start of the NRL season do not get off toa flyer, but Brisbane is fast proving it isanything but conventional.

The Broncos surged to top spot - forthe weekend at least - on the back of theirsixth straight win, a 31-18 demolition ofWests Tigers at the Sydney FootballStadium on Friday night.

It is a stunning recovery for a clubwhich was supposedly in turmoil, withcoach Ivan Henjak shown the door less

than a month before theopening round.

Even then rumour andinnuendo surrounded theBroncos with reports mastercoach Wayne Bennett was setto return to the club in 2012,interim coach Anthony Griffinseen as little more than a stop-

gap measure ahead of thecomeback of the messiah. But through it all the

Broncos have continued to defythe odds, the unity within theteam exemplified in theiroutstanding defensive recordwhich is averaging less than 10points conceded per game.

"When all the stuff thatwas going on with the coaching,it didn't faze us one bit," Broncosprop Ben Hannant said.

"We were happy with theway we were training, the styleof football they were training usto play - we were getting on

really well as a group, so it was agood place to be.

"There was a lot ofthings going on outside of ourcontrol but it didn't affect us.

"At the end of the day wegot a new coach but nothing'schanged, we're enjoying being apart of the club."

While skipper DarrenLockyer - who has seeminglygot better with each game sinceannouncing this would be hislast year before retiring - andSam Thaiday were again thestand-outs against the Tigers,

Lockyer praised the continuedperformances of the youngerbrigade, the likes of GerardBeale, Jack Reed, Alex Glennand Jhara l Yow Yeh.

It was those sameyoungsters that many criticsthought would be the Broncos'Achilles heel in 2011.

"I felt we'd be a lot moreconsistent this year becausethose younger guys were a bitmore mature and a bit more

    confident," Lockyersaid.

    "They've been thedifference really.

"Winning six in a rowin this competition is prettygood.

    "We're doing some

really good stuff there andthere's no reason why wecan't keep that going."

While there weresome positives for the Tigers, such as the return from injuryof Robert Lui, Liam Fulton,Beau Ryan and Kei thGalloway - who had abarnstorming game - theirsoft defence up the middleand on the left edge was amajor concern.

It is an area that issure to be tested again nextweek when they take on thebig Canberra pack in the

nation's capital, Tim Sheensadmitting his concern at theform of some of his youngforwards.

"We need to roll oursleeves up a bit better in theruck and give a platform forour kickers," he said.

"A couple of youngforwards are finding the NRLjust a little tough at this pointof the season."
