CHAPTER FOUR
Schedule of work
During my period of attachment with the Achimota Hospital, I was assigned to the
following jobs.
Collection of RevenueThe first job assigned to me by my unit was to collect revenue from the
patient. The bill varies depending on the type of sickness or specialist one
want to see. Normally the patient has to pass through a process before the
final payment is made, through this process he/she is made to see the right
doctor.
Firstly, I will collect a folder from the patient; if it is a new folder he/she
will pay 7 for seeing a specialist, but if it is an old folder, the patient is
suppose to pay 5. Talking about specialist includes the dentist, gynecologist,
lab technician, eye doctor and the like. Patient who has been detained,
coming for dressing, medical examination, checkup pay an amount of 5 as
consultation fee before seeing the general doctor. After seeing the
specialist the patient come back to pay an additional amount ranging from
50, 40, 30, 20, 10, depending on the situation one find him/herself. I also
collect suturing, ambulance, circumcision anddrug fees. Those with health
insurance pay nothing if they want to see a doctor, but there are
exceptions. Not all test or diseases have theinsurance scheme covered.
In conclusion I can say I take all payment beingmade at the hospital.
Entries in the cashbookAfter collecting that revenue from the patient, am obliged to make the
necessary entries in the cashbook, making sure the entries in cashbook
reconcile with the entries in the receipts book.

AuditingI spent threeweeks at the audit units. It is my duty to make sure a
systematic check or assessment is been carried out on the cashbook
to make sure all collection and official endorsing of final accounts is
made. We normally do this using the computer. Internal auditors
imparted in audit lectures were in full force, monitored within the
organization. I also had a chance to work with externalauditors as
they went throughtheir audit process for the year end.

CHAPTER FIVE
Benefit to student
My stay with the Achimota hospital helped me gained a lot of skills and personal
development
I. Technical Skills
Working with Achimota hospital helped me acquired new skills. Prior to
attachment little knowledge about Microsoft excel was acquired. I was introduced
to an accounting package known as spreadsheet programme. At first it was
difficult using the accounting package. As more exposure was gained, inputting
information, producing different reports, for example insurance report for
patience became faster and accurate.
II. Communication Skills
Communication skills were acquired especially when working at the patience
section. One of the duties on patience was to talk to patience on daily basis to
inform them about seeing the right doctor and any queries they needed to be
attended to. Good communication improves the companys image to its outside
world.
III. Human Relation Skills
The attitude developed towards teamwork improved. In account department, it is
essential to work as a team and it helped me. Teamwork helps improves workers
morale and in maintaining the organizational behaviour.

IV. Self Confidence
During the first Ilacked the confidencewhen talking to supervisor. Howeverlater
on I became adapted to the working environment. I could even complete tasks
from one department to another under the clear notion that I was doing the rightthing. As I began to settle my confidence got built up.
V. Meeting Skills
There were a few meeting I attended and these were departmental and
Annual General Meeting. The prominent skill I grasped was that t, he agenda
should be followed. Whenever one get the platform to say something he or she
should to stick to the agenda. Failure to do so would lead to stray discussion
which would not accomplish the objectives of the meeting.
VI. Personal Development
The four As of Steve Pavlina, were part of the way taken in the personal
development process. Assessment of working environment was done. Adopting
the way of life at the place was next, followed byadaptation to the environment
in it. Necessary adjustments to personal characteristics were made to suit the
people of Achimota hospital and the ups and downs found in all working
environment.
Mastering time usage for extreme productivity and overcoming procrastination
of task were part of the learnt tips. Setting up realistic goals, creations of action
plans in case of crisis and achievement of result were not left out either.
VII. Interpersonal Skills
Iinteracted with people of different backgrounds and personalities. This
improved my Is. I had to meet with the auditors and deal with their problems. I
had to run around all departments looking for document, information and
sometimes disseminating the information. Due to the interpersonal skills I began
to realize the relevance of teamwork and began to shun witch hunting. I was
prepared to accept outcomes of actions admit were negative result had emerged.
