Kostas Liaromatis: Greek Fabricator Visits NASCC

They specialize in industrial and commercial work, such as power plants, factories, refineries, and similar petro-chemical type work.They average about 15,000 tons per year, with capacity for much more.

Typical of many steel industry enterprises, Liaromatis is a family business. Business has some challenges in Greece, but with technology and a great business partner, Liaromatis is thriving.

Liaromatis was struggling to sustain demand for their product. The company needed better technology and a faster way to processes material to keep up with the high demand for processed material. Also, they had a need to minimize raw stock inventory investment by fabricating the steel when the fabricated components are required at the project site. “My steel fabricating business continued to grow, and I was searching for the best technology in the industry for my fab shop,” John Liaromatis said.

“We can now changeover from angle to plate without stopping the machine,” Liaromatis said. “I can run all my clip angles, splice plate connections, and some cap plates in the morning; they are fitted and welded the same afternoon.”

Liaromatis and Peddinghaus Layout Design Engineers were in close contact for over two years preparing, modifying, and finalizing the exact shop layout. Liaromatis eliminated unnecessary building trusses, column supports, or other structural items which would impede beam flow or throughput in their building.

“Peddinghaus was with us every step of the way,” Liaromatis recalls. “They did not just sell us machines, they insured that our shop layout was perfect, with plenty of flexibility for any type of job.”

SUMMARYKostas Liaromatis in Patros, Greece needed to produce more fabricated material in equal or less time than they were currently processing. The company was looking for a solution with new technology and that would operate at optimum efficiency with the perfect layout.
