Introduction02

KOREA UNIVERSITYKorea University is one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious universities. It has played a signi cant role in shaping Korean socially, culturally, and academically since 1905. The university's academic breadth is extensive, including 23 colleges and 24 graduate schools. Its professional schools of business, law, engineering and medicine, as well as its humanities and Asian studies programs are nationally renowned for their teaching and academic excellence. In the research eld, KU is internationally recognized for its 130 research centers, including the East Asiatic Research Center and the Korean Cultural Research Center. KU prides itself not only on being a progressive and globally conscious institution, but also one that plays a role in preserving and developing Korea's unique culture.

INTERNATIONAL SUMMER CAMPUSKorea University International Summer Campus (KU ISC) provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn about Korea through academic and cultural immersion during the summer months. It offers one semester's work load condensed into four or six weeks, during which renowned academics teach both domestic and international students. This program is open to current university students who wish to study in Korea during the summer. The core of KU ISC rests in the quality of its courses, faculty members and students. Academic credits earned at KU ISC are recognized worldwide and are typically transferred to the students' home institutions. More than 120 course offerings cover a wide range of subjects pertaining to international issues, with a particular emphasis on Business, Economics, Humanities, Sociology, Fine Art, International Relations, Science and Korean Studies. International faculty members from prestigious universities in the US, Europe and Asia provide students with a world-class education and research experience.

Dean's Message

Welcome to Korea UniversityInternational Summer Campus 2016!

Dear Student,

When you think about what to do this summer, what comes to your mind? Is it catching-up on your academic workload by taking extra courses? How about doing some international travel and sight-seeing or experiencing a different culture by making new friends? How about having a valuable international work experience? At the Korea University International Summer Campus program you can do all these things and more… making your next summer the most productive, memorable and exciting one yet!

Recognized as the top summer program in Asia, Korea University’s International Summer Campus (KU ISC) program is a six-week condensed semester hosted at KU’s beautiful state-of-the-art campus, taught by distinguished professors from prestigious universities from around the world. You can take up to three courses from a selection of over 100, which, in most cases, are transferable towards your degree at your home institution. In addition to rigorous academics, also available is an excellent four-week internship opportunity at a Korean company where you can gain real-life work experience in an Asian work environment to add to your resume.

To accommodate other plans you may have for the summer, we have recently added a four-week academic track to our standard six-week program. Together with expanded scholarships and a new tuition schedule, our institutional innovations will provide the flexibility you need to ensure all your summer plans are accomplished.

The KU ISC also features “buddy assistants”– local KU students who help organize social and cultural activities for you to feel at home and part of the KU family. From Korean traditional arts, a visit to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) or to learning K-Pop dances, KU ISC makes every effort to ensure that you are able to make the most of your summer in Korea. Each year more than 1,600 students from all over the world participate in the KU ISC – many return for a repeat experience the next year.

If you are looking for an intellectually stimulating, culturally fascinating and socially dynamic experience this summer, the KU ISC program is for you. We look forward to welcoming you to KU this summer!

VISA REGISTRATIONIt is the student's responsibility to be issued the correct type of visa in advance at the Korean Embassy or Consulate Ofce. Nationals of countries or regions where Korea has signed a visa waiver agreement may enter Korea without a visa. However, students from countries which are excluded from the visa waiver agreement program must apply for a visa on their own. Since the duration of KU ISC is six weeks, you may need to apply for a short term stay visa. Obtaining a visa may be time-consuming and therefore we encourage students to apply early.※ Chinese nationals whose home institution is outside of China MUST apply for a visa in the place where their

home institution is located.

TRADITIONPalace QuarterGyeongbokgung Palace was the first royal palace built in the Joseon Dynasty and where the Joseon Dynasty’s 500-year-history began. The largest of the five grand palaces remaining in Seoul, Gyeongbokgung provides a glimpse into Joseon’s royal culture and architecture through the Geunjeongjeon and other structures. The National Folk Museum of Korea and the National Palace Museum are also located on the palace grounds.

SHOPPINGMyeongdongKorea’s best-known shopping district, where the streets are lined with department stores and shops that sell brand-name cosmetics, clothing, and shoes. The Myeong-dong area is home to many flagship department stores and shopping malls where you will have access to hundreds of stores specializing in fashion, accessories, and more.

FUNHongdaeHongik University is renowned for its College of Fine Arts, and this is one of the reasons why a street for young people with their unique tastes was created in this area. It is filled with clothing shops, accessory shops, clubs and theaters, so you can enjoy shopping, entertainment, and culture. At night, performances by amateur bands are often held in playgrounds or vacant lots.

FOODItaewonSigns in foreign languages, and English spoken by many of the merchants and restaurants and cafes serving the cuisine of various foreign countries: these make one feel as if Itaewon Street is located in another country.
