Suggested Activities

KnowHow2GO 2 School

• Summer-long reading program• Build math into your activities– Review Common Core State Standards

• Visit a college campus• Visitors to talk about their college experiences• Learn about a “College of the Week”• Workshops for parents or including parents in activities

KnowHow2GO 2 School

• Learn about college mascots• Help students enter KnowHow2GO contest• Help students use the Indiana Career Explorer

(6th grade and up—make sure Grad Plan is up-to-date)

• Have math or Language Arts sessions to help students prepare for back to school

• Tour the building (for incoming students)

KnowHow2GO 2 Work

• Visit a jobsite (architect’s office, vet, etc.!)• Set up a “Take Your Child to Work” day• Create a matching game—match length/type

of education to the career• Have students present reports on careers• Play dress-up with career uniforms (nurse,

carpenter, etc.)

• Invite local colleges to come talk to your students

• Have a weeklong theme for a certain career (learn about necessary education, notable professionals, visit a jobsite, etc.)

• Make math practical with career-oriented, real-life math problems

• Stock your library with books on careers

Overview of Mini-Grant

• $1,000 for college and career readiness activities all year long

• Promote Learn More Indiana campaigns• Due August 20, 2012• 10-15 winners in three categories:– Serving any/all grades K-5– Any/all grades 6-8– Any/all grades 9-12

• Four criteria:– Creativity• HINT: Go above and beyond—then show us how!

– Involvement of students• HINT: Involve all staff, too!

– Alignment with goals• HINT: Read KnowHow2GOIndiana.org

– Verifiable results• HINT: Make your budget clear and detailed
