District Deputy CAMPAIGN FOR PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES O ne of the most popular and successful programs conducted by local councils benefits people with intellectual disabilities by collecting funds outside stores and on street corners. In appreciation, the donor is offered a piece of candy, often a Tootsie Roll ® . The high visibility of this program has led to the campaign being referred to as the “Tootsie Roll Drive.” While the nickname is understandable, it is misleading since the Knights of Columbus has no official tie to Tootsie Rolls or their manufacturer. Many councils participate in the same fundraising drive, but distribute other items. References to this program should highlight the positive aspects of the fundraising and not advertise candy. If councils in your district conduct this program, it is recommended that it be promoted as the “Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities.” YOUNG ADULT OUTREACH T he College & Young Adult Outreach team can assist you by sharing best practices for recruiting young people and by offering tips on how you can effectively engage young leaders in your district. These practices apply not only to college councils, but to established parish councils as well. The team can also assist you with New Council Development at your district’s colleges and universities. Please contact [email protected] with any leads so the team can work with you to form new college councils. For those districts that already have a college council, the support you provide to them is critical in keeping that council active. To learn more about College & Young Adult Outreach initiatives and best practices or to share your success stories from your district, we encourage you to contact [email protected]. NEW MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT VIDEO During the Membership 365 Seminar held at the 2015 Supreme Convention, the supreme knight introduced a new membership recruitment video An Invitation. This video follows up on the extremely popular Power of One video. Councils should be using the new video during their Church recruitment drives, open houses or during one-on-one visits with potential members. Both An Invitation and Power of One videos are available for viewing and download at kofc.org/recruit1. NEW COUNCIL DEVELOPMENT O ne of the greatest accomplishments for you as district deputy is the formation of a new council during your tenure. If you have a potential new council in your assigned area, strive to have it instituted as soon as possible. If you have questions regarding the procedure for starting a new council, please contact Stephen Hinckley at the Supreme Council office at 203-752- 4247 or [email protected].

Once the program is complete, councils should report their participation in theprogram using the Food for Families Reimbursement Program Refund and PlaqueApplication (#10057) available on kofc.org/forms.

During the weekend of October 10-11, 2015, councils should participate in the Orderwide Church Drive. The councils in your district should begin preparing for the drive by meeting with the pastor[s] of theparish[es] they serve to ask permission to conduct a membership drive at all Masses that weekend. Fora successful drive, the council should:
