Protein Providers Since Halloween, we've donated 4,000 lbs of sausage from Syracuse Sausage to Our Daily Bread, Salva-tion Army and Shepherd's Hand! And we have an opportunity to get another 3,000 lbs of meat over the next few months, but the boxes have labels which need to be removed before they can be donated, and they've asked us for some help. Looking for a few people to lend a hand for a couple hours to make light work of this task. Here are the guys who helped de-label 3,000 lbs of chorizo sausage at Syracuse today! - Dave Pacheco - Jonathan Pagle - Paul Rando - Walt Cisek - Jeff Scott - and Michelle, who took the pic thanks! --Bret

We Stand Strong on Ethnical Ground Some people believe that ethics in business is a contradiction in terms. They think that in order to be profita-ble, a company and its leaders must abandon morality and embrace the dark, greedy side that they see so of-ten in the news and in movies. At the Knights of Columbus, we know this isn’t true. A business can be both ethical and successful. We are. As a Catholic organization, we understand the value and importance of our core beliefs and the original mis-sion of Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney. In fact, much of the strength and financial security we provide to members and their families can be attributed to our ethical, moral standards. More than 96 percent of Knights who buy our life insurance keep it, year in and year out. The Order takes this commitment to our members very seriously. This means carefully planning when it comes time to invest. Our professional staff researches all transactions to insure that they fall in line with Catholic values. If a trans-action makes them uncomfortable, they don’t make it. “We exclude any company engaged in activity that conflicts with Catholic moral teaching: companies directly involved in abortion, contraception, human cloning, embryonic stem cell research, for-profit health care that pays for any of these, or pornography,” said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. “There are many companies in the pharmaceutical and communications industries that would undoubtedly provide excellent returns for us, but which are not in our portfolio because they engage in research and development or programming in ways that violate the sanctity or dignity of human life.” In the end, the Knights of Columbus investment strategy is motivated by morality, not money. Yet, each year we remain profitable, increase our assets and stay dedicated to this vision that will keep the Order finan-cially sound for generations to come. But don’t just take our word for it. In 2017 the Knights of Columbus was named a “World’s Most Ethical Company” by the Ethisphere Institute for the fourth year in a row. We were one of only two life insurance companies to earn the honor. www.ethisphere.com “Faithful Catholics have choices when buying life insurance,” said the Supreme Knight. “But they know that at the Knights of Columbus their policy is supplied by an insurer that shares their moral and ethical values and is guided in all of its investment and sales practices by those values.” Contact me today to learn more about our products. All Volunteers, Great job !

Active Shooter Training Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour- 1 Peter 5:8 Brother’s, Saint Peter gave us this insight that is even more true now than it has ever been. There are the wolves lead by the devil and the sheep that are the flock of the Lord. Who is to protect the flock from the wolves? We will as the sheepdogs. We as the sheepdogs need to embrace our role as the ones that are responsible to stand against any threats that may come to our family and friends. Usually, when crisis training takes place, the civilian population is told to react and not just to be-come a willing victim.

We as Knights need to be held to a higher standard. We need to dig deep and let the Holy Spirit work through us in order to embrace a warrior mindset. We need to embrace the fact that we have been lead to our positions for a reason. Should the moment arrive (God forbid) where we are called to action, we will be more than ready to take action to stop a threat to our brothers and sis-ters.

Thank you for allowing our training to begin. However, we need to stay vigilant and alert. Remember: eye contact, watch the hands, read the situation, utilize the what if game, and qualify the threat. Communica-tion is a must and if you see something, say something. The Lord will take care of the rest.

A recent religious publication had the title, “This Growing Darkness” and went on to talk about the sinful life we are leading in this country. Page after page highlighted our social problems including dysfunctional families, school slayings, the explosive drug addiction with opioids, and political and socie-tal discord and disharmony that creates a divisive America. One of the major concerns outlined in the article was the lack of religious fervor and a diminished presence of the Al-mighty in our country. With such a strong focus on the sepa-

ration of church and state, the darkness of sin seems to become ever so oppressive and foreboding. Is there a presence of light behind the darkening clouds to give us new hope and a new sense of direction? Christians are now approaching the Lenten Season, a time of reflection and a time to repent from our sinful ways. We acknowledge our sinfulness and make changes to our diet with fasting and put more focus on the blessings in our lives. We are preparing for the great sacrifice our Lord will make on the cross as he endures a painful death for all of humanity. That day of His death, Good Friday, is the darkest of days for the world. But his resurrection on the third day, is one of the brightest days on earth, as he defied death and began building his church with his apostles. His church continues to grow each day. And for Catholics, we are nourished by His precious Body and Blood each time we gather during the Mass. As we begin the Lenten Season, there are things that we can do to bring light into a darkened world. As Knights, we have taken upon ourselves the role of followers of the faith and protectors of Christ’s Church. We reach out to those in need with our time, talent, and treasure. There are also some positive things we can do this time of year, including:

Walking for life and demonstrate that the millions who have perished through abortion is a grave sin that we all bear. We march to recognize that only God creates life.

Reflecting each day of Lent by using the Little Burgundy Book which provides a six minute journey through the Gospel of Matthew as we pray for changes in our life.

Reaching out each day with any person we meet who needs a spiritual boost. You never know the im-pact that an encouraging word or action can have on one without hope.

Becoming a steward of Christ and realize that stewardship is far more than money or service. It is a way of life to serve our Savior by sharing our Christian love.

Following the traditions of the Church with diet changes. Instead of giving something up for Lent, try add-ing something to your life that brings forth the presence of Christ .

Yes, there is darkness in the world but there is sunshine above the clouds and we can always overcome the dreary weather and threats in our life when we put our trust in the Lord. Jesus Christ is the light of the world. His church and his teachings provide a solid foundation to live a life of meaning and fulfillment. His message has remained the same for 2,000 years and will continue until the end of time: Love God with all your heart, your mind, and your soul and love one another. It is the trust in the Lord that diminishes the shadow of sin in the world. It is His truth that provides the light of the world that can end the darkness. Be the light of Christ each day to all you meet. You are a Knight, share Christ’s light! (Deacon Jim, 1/30/18)
